i think that on animals the DE would help. it is abrasive and would cut the tick. may not be full proof but may help. just a thought sherrye

I wonder if DE even would work on the animals--their shell is so hard you have to cut them to kill them. . . |

Here you go ladies. This might help you out. Also Apple Cider Vinegar is really good for ticks and fleas too.
Tick Repellent Ticks can carry a number of diseases, but the worst of them is Lyme disease. Humans and pets alike can contract Lyme disease, but it can be extremely serious for pets. This tick remedy calls for two tablespoons of vegetable oil or nut oil and 10 to 25 drops of rose geranium oil, which can be purchased at a nutrition store or online. Combine in a jar and shake to mix. The mixture works for humans, dogs and cats. To apply, dab a little bit on your skin or clothing, being sure to avoid the eyes. This recipe makes about 2 tablespoons and can last up to six months unused, according to Care2.com.

orange oil works to prevent fleas and ticks and biting flies, you can get it at feed stores, petco/petsmart, and natural food stores. A little goes a long way, you can mist it on, or put on a rag and wipe it on, oh, and it works on all animals , including human.

orange oil will not burn, but the "orange scent" is strong

How do you apply the ACV for ticks? And Kris you have me curious too, what does DE stand for? Would it be diatomaceous earth?

: ) I have to smile...at myself. I am not sure what ACV means but I put the oils in a small glass spray bottle and will spray it on. Tho..the spray isn't very fine which is what I was looking for. That is the other thing I am feeding - Diatomaceous earth - my computer does not know that word either. : ) chuckle chuckle.... Kris : >

I found a tick on my Nubian's ear yesterday. I gave all my guineas away last fall. They really helped keep the ticks down. I just made the oil and will spray it on all the critters.
My poor cow girls are really having a hard time with flies. They are covered. From their noses to their feet. It's so bad. I am going to spray them down with this and see if it helps any.
ACV is apple cider vinegar. And DE is ground up very old shells? It's a very fine powder that will cut up a slug ar snail or larva. Even some beetles. I put it on potatoes for the beetles and the beans too. Also good for putting in goat yards to keep worms down.

howdy gals, DE is the diatomaceous earth. ACV is apple cider vinegar. it must be the raw unfiltered acv. there will be brown sediment in the bottom of the jar. this is an alive product. the bios in it are not cooked. it has great benefit to animals and humans. many nutrients in it also. changes ph of the animal so bugs do not like to bite them. just a thought sherrye

I didn't know cows had problems with fleas - I hope they get relief from the spray. We got some poorly cared for mini horses who were full of lice - that wasn't fun.
I never would have guessed ACV had anything to do with vinegar.....but like I said, I am a nut with abbreviation. Thank you Kris : ) I am going to use the diatomaceous earth in the garden this summer. I was told that is harms bugs and worms. You guys have a good day, I am off to town for my normal weekly town stuff. Its going to be warm here again today.....we may have a overly warm summer this year. Take care.... Kris
