You know, us moms are pretty special creatures. I always knew my mom was the best growing up and had my assumptions verified in 2nd grade when we did a class play. All of the kids (read kid's parents) were responsible for providing some sort of clothing to make the costume. The boy who was playing the part of the bull wore a red sweat suit and I think some face makeup.
I was the dove. My mom made me my outfit. I wore white pants and she made me a shirt with wings that flared out when I opened my arms with a hood that covered my hair with a white point on my forehead. It was a beautiful costume and my mom took the time to use blue glitter paint to paint out feather designs on my outfit. All the other kids were jealous of my wonderful costume. I felt like Cinderella at the ball. It was perfect. My mom was the best mom.
Then again my suspicions that my mom was the best (possibly Super Woman I wasn't quite sure yet) were again verified. It was a normal everyday type day but I had forgotten my lunch. Mom came to my class on her way to work to drop it off. One of the boys turned to me and said "Alyssa, is that your mom?!" I nodded and he said in hushed tones "She's beautiful!" Yup, that's my mom!
We had a rough phase as I hit puberty. My mom had done a great job in giving me confidence and sometimes I let that confidence go to my head.
But over all we shared so much more. I came home from school one day glowing about a short story I had read in class. It was amazing but I had been the only one in class that liked it. I had even written the author's name down hoping that our local library would have a book by her. My mom just got a mysterious smile on her face and took me down to our mini library and proceeded to pull 12 books off the shelf by this author. I was in heaven. My mom was awesome. Who could have a cooler mom than a mom that already owned all the books you had been dying all day to read?!
Mom always has supported me in pursuing my dreams, even when that meant me moving far away from home for six long years. During my time away I learned a new respect for her depth of loving and her strength. She has become my sounding board, my best friend, and my confidant.
Three very short years ago I gave birth to my own wonderful daughter. My mom had been a source of information, support and love. She is as amazing as a grandmother as she is as my mother.
I really enjoy being Nora's mom. It's amazing that a kiss and a hug can stop things from hurting, that when she wakes up in the morning she comes right to me.
I love that ever morning I am greeted with her smiling face saying "Mommy, Geb up! It's morning time!" Or if I am already awake seeing her face shine as she says "Mommy! You're up! Good morning!"
I know that each day brings its own trails and I hope that as I continue on this journey that Nora thinks I am the best mom ever and that I will have the strength to help her learn the hard lessons in life while still feeling loved and confident in herself, just like my mom has done for me. Thank you mom. And thank you to all the other wonderful mothers out there.

Thanks ladies! Nora is a tuckered out little girl right now. We just got home from a BBQ with some friends. Our friends have a little boy that is just a few months younger than Nora. It was like night and day. I am so glad Nora listens to me. All day our friend was constantly calling her son back to the group but he wouldn't listen and she would have to chase him back. Nora had a few listening issues, but mostly because she saw him misbehave. I am so lucky that she realizes that listening to Mommy is the smart thing to do though! :D
