I made my first dutch oven cake at home today. I've taken classes where I've made things but never got around to doing it at home. I am going to try to use my oven more this summer. Anybody want to share their favorite dutch oven recipes.

I prepared a (Pillsbury) reduced sugar chocolate mix as directed on the box. I lined my 12-inch deep oven with foil and oiled it. After pouring the batter into the oven,I put some cashews and chocolate chips on the top. I then baked it with 8 charcoal on the bottom and about 20 coals on top since it was a deep oven. I think it cooked in less than an hour. I drizzled a small amount of white reduced sugar frosting on it. I sampled it and I think it is going to be very good. We haven't ate it yet.

I would rather wear out than rust out.----Richard Cumberland

There are so many things you can make in a dutch oven. I think they all taste so much better cooked outside! A simple cake I have made is.......can of cherry pie filling, in bottom of pan, dump on top of that, a chocolate cake mix, and then dump on top of that a can of coke. Don't stir. Just cook till done! Very good! I used my own cherries, and my own homemade cake mix and worked just fine.
