Well I planted my seedlings on Tuesday. Now my squash, 3 tomato, and cucumber plants seem to be burning. The plants are wilted and some of the leaves are yellow....I have made a really nice veggie bed. It have nice fabric so I will not have any weeds. And I also have soaker hoses under the fabric, mulch on top of the fabric. The plants are hilled and it looks wonderful. I also have lemon balm and basil to help with pests. SO WHAT IS WRONG!!!!! HELP!!!!

i agree with alee. did you put fertilizer in the soil. might be too hot that way too. need more details. basil and tomatoes appreciate a little afternoon shade. they are under story plants in the places they grow. just a thought sherrye

They were inside...they were a little small...I guess I will have to start over. what do you suggest? Should I start the seeds? Or inside again? Some made it...but I went out this morning and I have lost about 7 plants. I have about 8 that seem to be ok

Deborah, I start my seedlings inside and then when they are big enough (over 6 inches), I take them outside for a little while every day and gradually increase the time they are out before I transplant them. It is what Alee says-hardening out. You really need to do this in the Southern States. It is a hassle but if you have some of those plastic trays to set the seedlings in, it makes it easier to transport them in and out. Maybe instead of starting the lost ones over you could go to a garden center and buy a few that are already to transplant.

If it is planting time already and you are having to start over with seeds, I would ground sow and maybe put black plastic over the soil to help absorb heat during the day and assist in germination. OR you could germinate again inside but as soon as you see the any germination at all, get them outside in the sun but protected from wind. This simulates ground sowing so they should grow out without having to be hardened off

Well thanks ladies...I have black fabric on the ground already because I was trying to help with weeds. I do have to put my bean seeds in the ground. And I already put seeds in my seedling tray. So I will just take them out when they get big enough. And ease then into the outside.
Again you ladies have saved me...You are all my heros...I hope everyone has a GREAT Mothers Day

Deborah, when I planted all my tomatoes I started from seeds they looked awful for a few weeks but they are all doing great now. They looked like they had gotten sunburned too. I lost about 5 and I will replace those soon with some new ones I started. But I am going to have to get out there and start staking them soon. So don't give up on them too soon. Mulch real good and keep them watered the first few weeks.

Kris, Thanks. I have started my seeds again. But I havent pulled anything up just yet. Some of the plants look like they might make it. Since we have a long growing season I am not worried about starting late this year. I will have to get more mulch to put around the plants.

Kris, You were right. I hav e about 8 plants that have surived. And I have 1 cucumber and 1 yellow squash that has flowers...I also have about 4 tomatoe plants that seemed to have survived.
