Can you tell me if I can plant a red onion that sat a little too long on the counter? Will it grow, rot, multiply?

It's an organic one from a co-op and I just forgot about it. I hate to waste it.
Or, can it still be eaten?

The greens are about 2 - 3 inches high.

Thanks,
Stephanie

I had a half of an onion in the fridge that I forgot about and it sprouted a huge green top of three or four inches. For fun, I put it in the garden in March and it seems to be thriving!

My onion is doing great. Now another onion question....

I have green onions growing that someone gave me as a transplant a few months ago. They have greens about 5-10 inches tall.
2 of the tallest have bulbs/pods at the top. What do I do now? Are those seeds, edible?

Thanks!
Stephanie
