So, on Friday, I was going out to feed my pet steer, when I heard this AWFUL crying noise from inside one of our garden sheds. I went to check it out and it was a little kitten. LITTLE. And she was screaming her head off! The funny thing is, we have a feral cat, a female, who we knew had babies, but had never seen them. Thursday she had stood outside the cattle pasture and meowed her head off at me-I couldn't figure out what she wanted!

Anyway, the cat was stuck underneath some boxes, and I was able to get her free and inside the house, safe and warm. She was REALLY skinny. I've started bottle feeding her kitten milk, which she drinks like a pro. But, here's my concern. Her belly is swollen now. If it was a puppy, I wouldn't be concerned, because they usually have swollen bellies after eating and whatnot. I've never had such a young kitten though-we're guessing she's 3-4 weeks. I'm using a washcloth to get her "excretions", which is working fine, she's had one bowel movement last night, and has urintated more times than I can count. I just am not sure if the belly should be swollen or not. She doesn't seem uncomfortable or anything, but, I worry nonetheless, that it could be gas or worms. I didn't see any worms in her poop though. Any help would be appreciated!

Yay! Well, we found her mama, and I put her in with her mama. I'll check on her tonight and make sure she's not being "rejected" by the mom. We'll see.

Hey Megan, this might be a bit late, but constant swelling and her skinny physique might mean she has intestinal worms. Often, puppies and kittens do have this, usually a standard dewormer expels them.

I'm glad you rescued that little kitten. I rescued one about a year ago and she is now a beautiful cat who rules my brother's house.
