Hi everyone this is a little something that I am doing on our farm that I'd thought I'd share here. The following story is from my new facebook page called, "Aria's Rainbow". Let me know what you think and certainly let me know if I can tie a thread on her rainbow for you. It would be my privilege to do so...
Much love and light always, ~julia
In February 2008, a few weeks after Aria was diagnosed with leukemia, our friend David Repyak asked if he could come over and build something for Aria in our pasture which was covered in snow. He made me promise not to peek and would call me when it was time to look and see what he had made.
David placed 2 poles in the snow and sewed 4 bands of brightly colored tulle in between. It was only when I looked down from the upstairs playroom that I could see that he had walked a perfect heart around this rainbow in the snow. This was Aria's first rainbow and it was the first sense of hope and promise we had in what was otherwise a cold and bleak time. Aria's rainbow remained in our pasture until the summer when I took it down and asked David to come build me an arch in our welcoming garden.
Gathering cedar and willow from his property north of our farm he built this more permanent structure. I was able to salvage the original tulle and it remained tattered, torn and weather worn until she was finished with her treatment.
I sewed the rainbow banners you see in this photograph. They are messy and uneven. They blow in the wind and wrap themselves around the arch. They represent that life can still be beautiful despite chaos, clutter and mess.
David's gift is one of the most treasured things ever to grace my life. I am and will always be indebted to him.
I wanted to find a way to use the magic of Aria's rainbow for other people. I thought about it for weeks and one day out of the corner of my eye I saw a basket of embroidery thread I have in my studio. I will need to live 100 lives in order to use up the amount of thread collecting dust in this basket! And then it hit me.
I have been asking people if they'd like a piece of colored thread tied to Aria's rainbow in honor of themselves or someone they know. It could be for someone in the middle of a crisis. Someone recovering from treatment or an illness. Someone who has moved on to the next life. Someone who is welcoming life.
We all have a story. We all have a journey and yet we are all connected in some way. This is my small way of inviting you to be a part of our magic--Aria's magic.
You are welcome to post a message on the wall or in this discussion section. You can include your story if you like. Please let me know the color of thread you'd like represented. If there's something you'd like said as I tie the thread on the rainbow by all means let me know.
It is in the spirit of this great gift of Life that I present this to you.

Julia: What a wonderful thing to do. I would love to be a part. Could I tie a thread in memory of my parents, sister, nephew? I don't want to change or add to your plans. Keep us posted. Hugs to you and Aria. God Bless all of you. Marly

Julia, You are so thoughtful. Yes, please tie a thread for my Dad. If you could make it red, that would be great. He was a proud serviceman. I think red would be appropriate. Bless you for this. BIG FARMGIRL HUG Gena
