Chicken Poo this year!

----I hope we didn't incorporate too much into the veggie beds. I have heard it is a great fertilizer in moderation. Anyone else use this?

i love my chicken poop. i use many ways. sometimes i soak a bucket full of water with the poop and let it make poop tea. then i dilute it even more. i have to be some what analytical here. we have maybe 60 days no frost. its all basalt lava rock and sand here in the high desert. we are at the foot of the cascades.they are volcanoes. they have burped since we have been here. that was a trip. no weather- no good soil. when we fertilize and water it washes right into the center of the earth. lol our farmgirl in alsaka knows the challenge. i have HUGE pieces of plastic to pull over garden in summer freeze. so i need well fed strong plants.hence all the goodies i add to compost pile and my liquid fert.happy gardens. sherrye

Sherrye, I just take my rake out to the goat barn or where the old hay was where the chickens like to scratch around and rake up all that good stuff. I make my rows and throw a handfull in each hole. Or I'll til it in with the tiller. I am gradually getting the red clay soil turning a nice brown. Hopefully soon it will be nice rich black soil. But anywhere the goats and chickens have been I'll rake up wheelbarrows full and use that all over. I have not bought man-made fertilizer in years.

We use horse poo and rabbit poo, old hay, table scraps composted out some, all natural gardens alive fertilizer, and cover crops if I remember to plant them. I usually forget them though! Oh yeah, I add superthrive every couple of waterings.

Sherrye, goat is like rabbit I believe. You can use it straight on the plant. My chickens are great shredders though. They love the goat poo because of the grain still in it. So it's pretty much composted for me by the time I rake it up.
