Okay girls, this Saturday is the opening of our Farmers Market. Since I got shut down last year with my homemade bread (now gotta have a commercial kitchen, etc., etc.  ), I have decided to do mixes. I have triple-chocolate muffin, almond poppy seed muffin, chocolate chip cookie, oatmeal raisin cookie, brownie with chocolate chips and nuts, cornbread, cheesy beer bread and Irish soda bread mixes that I am packaging in brown lunch bags tied with fabric bows. I also have 2 kinds of the layered soup mixes in quart canning jars with the fabric toppers. I browsed through etsy to see what this kind of stuff sells for and maybe it's just me but I thought the prices were kind of high (especially when you have to add shipping on top of that).  Anyway, does anyone have any experience or advice on what to charge? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Well,I'd have to say you'd need to ask yourself how much does the ingredients cost & divide that by how many batches you make from whatever ingredients you're using. Also your time is worth something,and then there's the packaging.And you are the one with the recipes! The prices you're seeing probably isn't all that bad if you consider all the above. Are the items you're seeing selling well for the prices you think are high? I know with my own wares I have a tendency to undersell. I've had a hard time realising that what I make is worth a decent price,that my old thought of "if I can do it,anyone can so it's not that big a deal" is not true. You could try competing with the others by pricing just a tad lower. Just remember you really are in it to make money,which isn't to be mistaken for being greedy.

I have paid anywhere from $8-$15 a jar for mixes. It all depends on what you have in them. The girls on esty probably are right on with their pricing. I have cross checked a couple of things on the internet and they are even with and lower than comparable items. Be sure to advertise that it is homemade and private or family recipes! That really counts with farmers market shoppers!
