I was just reading an article about the biblical call to "welcome the stranger" and wondered how to apply that more often in my own life.

What do you do to be "hospitable" to friends and strangers?

You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands - You shall be happy and it shall be well with you. -Psalm 128.2

Smiling at strangers, being polite, open, and offering at least something to drink when someone walks into my house!

I feel it is to do your best to make people feel welcome, in your home, in your life, in your presense. That's how I try to be. Doesn't always go that way though.

I was just thinking about that today - I was watching a man who appeared to be a transient making his way really sloowwlly across the street in front of my car and it occurred to me to wonder what he was like as a kid, and that reminded me that each of us was a bright-eyed little person, full of possibility, and each of us is still one of God's children, and that I should try to see that child in everyone.

I think it's going out of our way to make others comfortable and help them to feel welcome. Giving them the best seat, the best coffee mug, the best place setting. Putting others ahead of ourselves, but doing it with a giving heart and willing spirit.

~~Blessings, Mikki Jo

I try to treat others like I would like to be treated. I always look who ever I am talking to in the eye. I chat with the clerk who rings me up or just tell the drive thru lady Good Morning. It is amazing how much people feel wonderful with just a hello or Good Morning.

When I was travelling for work I met a person who also travels much of the year and is away from his family most of the time... Right now he is in the same metro area as I am.

My husband and I have invited him to dinner tomorrow. I hope it goes well.

On the other hand we have recently moved into a new neighborhood and have yet to meet most of our neighbors. How do we get acquainted? No one has showed up with a loaf of bread or a pie - as a new neighbor, should I take it to them?

My neighbors don't have anything to do with other neighbors. Oh, except when they had the hurricane and need to find some one with cash to borrow.

I try to make a batch of something and take it to neighbors. I am that way. I make an effort to welcome new people because I live in such a hostile environment here that if I find out they aren't from here I make a huge effort.

It's all good!

I try to smile at strangers, no matter what their race or what they look like. I also hold doors for strangers, and thank people who hold doors for me. I also try to be courteous to salespeople, no matter how many times they ask me if I need anything! I also like Nancy's saying about family and guests.
God's Blessings,
