i buy alfalfa pellets for my pigs. i mix with sunflower seeds. i try to at least find food that still looks like food i can recognize.i do use oats and barley molasses kelp epsom salts. i also post on craigs for garden scraps. i get the scraps from the produce stands.they eat hay also. just a thought sherrye
I would love to go organic with my dairy feed but no one around here sells it. And to order would be outrageous. So I am planting alot of organic sunflower seeds to feed them all next fall. And try to get organic natural hay too. I would love to get away from the soy in everything also.
A couple of things I do is go in with many other folks who which to do organic and drop ship feed - saves on the shipping and then everyone picks up their feed - also if you can get enough folks a local feed store might just do the work for you if they see there is an interest and enought people purchasing.
Next scout out local farmers markets and ask around - many farmers have food that they can not sell which will work for the chickens and hog. You might also find a organic meat producer who will sell you the scrapes from his processing for the dogs. I had a girlfriend who went with me on the left overs from a buffalo ranch - I also purchased a half a buffalo for my own food and then he thru in extras.
You can also collect wild feed for the chickens and hogs - my chickens fight me over the dandelions - I make syrup and jelly but they can snatch them up faster then I can. But you can mushroom hunt, gleem different types of greens for all the animals, plant what you need or also work again with a farmer. Some CSA's will let you purchase or have what they do not get sold so again you can be organic many ways.
