It's a tie between 'I'm Not Lisa' by Jessi Colter and 'Tell Lori I Love Her' by Keith Whitley. I love both so much!

I don't think I could pick a favorite song. Not even a favorite hundred songs. Depends on the day and what I'm doing. I like everything from old bluegrass to whatever you would classify the bands Muse and InnerPartySystem under (no clue myself)...I will say that I think the most romantic sweetest song I've yet heard is "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds. My generic knock off Ipod plays a lot of Muse, Nickel Creek and Brandi Carlile lately.

I have too many favorite songs to list, but some of my current faves are: Viva La Vida by Coldplay, Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash, Ten Million Fireflies by ??? and about a hundred others from the 80's. And my favorite "farmgirl" song is "Don't come the Cowboy with me, Sunny Jim" by Kirsty McCall. Which I haven't heard in years, but it's really good.

i used to sing bluegrass music, when i was a young woman so i lean towards any kind of acoustic, rockabilly, gospel as long as it is acoustic.
i love most songs by gilliam welch, nanci griffin, and alison krause. and i love the original dixie chicks with robin macy. a small "chick" with a big heart and a voice to go with it.
annabelle...gilliam welch

gulf coast highways...."
its the harmonies and the lyrics that always get me.

gulf coast highways
gulf coast highways, he worked the rails, he worked the rice fields, with their cool dark wells.
he worked the oil rigs in the gulf of mexico, the only thing we ever owned is this old house here by the road.
and when he dies he says we'll catch some blackbird wings, and we will fly away to heaven come some sweet bluebonnet spring.
so if ya ever get a chance to find some nanci griffin circa 1985+ check it out. she is a texas treasure, for sure.

I love soooooooo many songs. I don't like just one type of music either which makes it double tuff!
Wicked games by Chris Isaak is so sad and pretty
Landslide by Stevie Nicks or the Dixie Chicks
LOTS more.

Any song in the pocket songbook we used to use for Girl Scout camp... LOL

Any song I can sing without having to go above high C.

Any familiar hymn (hate it when they bring in one I've never sung before, especially if it was written before 1850 - there's a reason we never sang it before! come to think of it, these usually involve high notes!) Maybe "morning has broken" in this category but scads of others

Any silly song I sing with my grandkids...

My favorite farmgirl song is Buffy Ste. Marie's - "Gonna be a country girl again". I just love the lyric "the one who taught my lesson was the soft wind through the pines"

Refrain:
I'm gonna be country girl again
With an old brown dog and a big front porch and rabbits in the pen
I tell you, all the lights on Broadway don't amount to an acre green,
and I'm going to be a country girl again

Oh gosh. I could NEVER pick a favorite, I don't think--my musical tastes run from Aaron Copeland and Puccini to Coltrane, The Beatles, and more modern day, Ray Lamontagne. My husband is also one of my favorite songwriters...

What am I listening to right now...Otis Gibbs (a fabulous singer songwriter out of Nashville who we met when he played my husband's club several years ago) and Billy Bragg & Wilco's "Mermaid Avenue" sessions (a group of lyrics by Woody Guthry that were never put to music, so his daughter hired Billy Bragg and Wilco to do it. AWESOME.).

Oh, Kerriann

My daughter and I do this all the time. It is wonderful!! She loves to sing "This little heart of mine" too.

I love Martina McBride. Her songs are positive and uplifting. I love late 80's and 90's country. Clint Black and George Strait come to mind. I also love classical. And Hilary Stagg. Beautiful harp music. Brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it. You can listen to him at Pandora. He died maybe ten years ago. What a loss. The song Land of Oz is undescribible.

Gosh....I would have a hard time picking just one. I love Chris LeDeoux, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Billy Joel, Brooks and Dunn, and 70's stuff of course..Bluegrass to rock. I am not a fan of rap but that is about the only music I don't enjoy.

Oh, and I don't think I could pick just one song, let alone style of music. Favorite Things, John Coltrane arrangement, lots of Nanci Griffith originals - Gulf Coast Highway is a true classic Frannie!! Pretty much everything Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash ever wrote, Martha Scanlan is amazing....gotta stop now or I won't be able to

My all time favorite song is called "Wildflower" by a group out of Canada called Skylark. I was a very young lassie at the time and it still touches my heart today just as it did then. I love most any music from the 70's. I have 2 gospel music songs that I dearly love. One is Consider The Lilies and the other one is Alabaster Box by CeCe Winans.

And I love almost all of the music by Rascal Flatts, which a couple of songs were played at mine and my DH wedding last summer.

Thanks for posting this...I love reading about what the other farmgirls like to listen to.

Smiles...

Judy

My favorite song is I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me. Not only is it my favorite, but was played on my birthday/and my 54 year old friend's funeral who died of cancer. She was truly Christian and walked the walk. I wish I could have been there to witness her meeting her maker. I Can Only Imagine how glorious it must have been. She was loved by many and now only a memory. I still cry when I hear the song, because it such a touching song and also for the friend I lost.
