Guys are the hardest for me too. One year we made all the guys that would be here marshmellow guns (from PVC pipe..my husband works for a plumbing supply store) and gave them all those and bags of "ammo".( a bag of mini marshmellows) We had a big marshmellow fight in the garage (started in the family room until I booted them outside..I was picking wet marshmellow off everything..ugh!!) after dinner and it was a big hit. THey are sort of "blow guns and very simple to make. The men got "rifle" type and the kids got "pistol" type..as they were easier to blow the mini marshmellows through. They get a little damp from the warm breath and sticky...yuck..but fun. I think the grown up guys liked them as much as the kids did. When we lived in Calif where it was warmer we did water balloon launchers one year. That was a big hit too. CAn you tell we like to play? I am not sure what we will do for the guys yet this year. I knitted caps for them all one time too...the round hat looms that are out now are really quick. Depends on if you live somewhere where you need warm hats this time of year. WE do. What I have found out over the years of having mostly sons and lots of uncles and one brother is that men want to play..so games and gadgets are always most appreciated.

We did a pop can canon one year. Not as safe as the marshmallow guns though. You are right about guys liking toys! My son gave me the address to a web site with lots of fun stuff for guys and some of us gals too. It is www.thinkgeek.com Go look at this site it might give you some ideas for things you could maybe make instead of buying. Eileen

We try not to have too much candy and sweets around here, so at Christmas I relent and get more than I usually would. Yes, guys are hard to shop for (though my husband would disagree). One time, all year, he was complaining that he needed a better hammer. Of course he wouldn't buy one himself, so for Christmas I got him one (try wrapping that up); guess he was about as happy with that gift as I would have been with a toaster! You can look on the internet and find websites for old time candy - from the 50's and earlier. If your guys are nostalgic try giving them candy from the childhoods in their stockings.

I took ribbon candy in to a class party a few years ago and you would have thought I brought the treasure from the Titanic. I still have kids ask me if we have that candy every year! Thanks for the good ideas! The marshmallow guns would be great for the boys Jenny! I will definitely check out the website Eileen , thanks! Cecelia ...you made me think of a new thread, that's dangerous don'tcha know?!!!

Well, we would all be remiss in our loyalties to this site if we did not say that any of the food packets, etc. from MJF's catamag will be a hit in any stocking, man or woman. In fact, I am giving a couple of bread packets to my daughter in her stocking. And I have asked for the handle to the bakeover pan for myself. And I would love to get the wire baskets and the embroidered pillow kits. We can shop at MJF!

I think homemade gifts are always the best. This year we are giving bean-soup jars (just add water and hamburger) with a leather instruction card that features our ranch brand on it (a lazy lightning H.) Jerky is also a big favorite around our country, although we have moved up from the old salt-and-pepper-dry-it-in-the-sun days. Drying jerky that way makes it hard to tell if the pepper is pepper, or, er, fly presents. I'd rather get a home made gift over a store-bought any day!! |

A candy store in this area sells peanut butter filled ribbon candy, but it's expensive and you have to order it before Thanksgiving to get it in time for Christmas. I don't know how they get the p.b. between the ribbon of candy, but it is delicious. Haven't ordered this year though.

JP, My sister in law bought MJF food packets for her sons who are serving in the military! THey both loved them and they are health food nuts too. Although my budget is pretty tight this year...think I will order some of her products for those hard to buy for folks on my list...even if it is one item. Also, remember our military personnel serving our country this time of year. They need our love and prayers and support so far from home!
