I am so incredibly proud and incredibly scared at the same time.

Being in the military has been something he's wanted to do all his life and I feel he should do what he is meant to do. His wife is behind him too, even though she's scared and proud too.

My son wants to my g-baby to be proud of him. I know she will be.

I should say, I'm now against the war(s) because I don't feel like we're in there to win them and I don't want to lose my son for something that we aren't doing our best at...but it's his life and I'm proud of HIM. He knows I feel this way but understands why I feel this way too.

So, if something should happen to him, I don't think I'll be able to take it. I have a friend who lost her son and she says I'll survive but I don't think so. I dont' like to think of such things but it's possible.

Anywho, I wanted to let everyone know about my son and how glad I am that he's mine (after his wife and daughter!).

FWIW: I'm former Navy myself and also Army National Guard, not a shrinking violet by any means. Somehow, it's different now that it's my son....

Winona, thank your son for his service. My DH is still in active duty after 24 years and my son-in-law is also active army. They have both been deployed to Iraq, my DH twice and my SIL three times. These unselfish heroes are what make this country great!

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and replies. For some reason, tears kind of popped up in the corner of my eyes when I read your posts. Just gets to me right "here", if that makes sense. Thanks again.

Winona,

My thoughts are with you and your family. It's a brave decision your son is making, especially in these times.
He will be among great men and women in the military, and have another family that will look out for him and care for him while he is away. My step-son (Air Force Reserve) just got called up again. This will be his fourth time. He could have taken early retirement, but felt he would be abandoning his friends when they needed him. It's wonderful to see what a bond they form with each other. Now I'm tearing up so I'll just say thank your son for me and I wish you all the best.

Judy

Thinking of you and your family. I can understand the feeling of pride and yet being scared. I think I would feel the same way. Please, thank him for his service. You and your family will be in my prayers.

First, please thank him from the bottom of my families hearts for choosing this path, we are all very proud of him.
Second, my youngest son, who lives here on my farm/ranch did 2 tours in Iraq, he's special ops. He was in Iraq when his daddy, my hubby passed, and that was tuff on him, but he was able to send a video taped message in time to him. I do know how you feel about him going, its scary to say the least. And yes, I know you too are proud of him, no matter your feeling about the war now, and he knows that also. He will make everyone he knows, and that knows him proud, especially his wife and daughter. He will be in our prayers from now til he is back in your arms.

Winona,
I understand what you are feeling. The pride yet fear, my son is in the Air Force and I feel the same way. I am so proud, yet when I don't hear from him for a while I just pray to God that he is safe. Somehow a mom's heart is big enough for the pride and the fear. I will pray for him and you.

Wiona, my prayers are wwith both you and him. know you are very proud. My 17 year old has always talked of joining the military, and I might be sending one of these letters also soon. My dh retired from the Navy, and I spent six years in the Navy too. I am so grateful for our military, Carol

Our prayer's are with your son and every other son and daughters fighting for our safety. And also for you and your family as you await his return. Both of my sons are in the military and both returned safely from deployment, one in Iraq and the other Afghanistan. It is one of the hardest things I have ever faced as a parent, there is a major feeling of helplessness. The computer was a godsend I can't imagine how moms did it before Myspace and Facebook!

Winona, First, Please thank your son for us. . . we appreciate his service!! I know how you are feeling, My son is in the military as well. He has done his first tour of duty in Iraq and is now back home.
I have said my prayers of thanks for his safe return.

You need to look at this from a different point of view, your son will help you with that. My son pointed out all the good we are doing. When asked why he serves his answer is simple and to the point:
" I fight for and protect those who cannot fight for and defend themselves" How can you argue with that?

May God bless you, your son and all of your family.
