Spring has sprung here! My snap peas are growing, I have tomatoes and peppers planted. I do not have a farm, but I have a garden, and I try to make our little place seem like a country place. How about you?
And today we added a new plot and planted squash and cucumbers, and I am so happy to have a bigger garden!!!

Baby goats are being born, new flowers are springing up, our fruit trees are blooming with beautiful colored buds, the weeds are growing. :) lol Spring is here!!

On Monday one of the mares I board has a date with a handsome stud, so come January-ish I will have a baby around here. Even though the fields are still wet they are going to be planted in the next week. Winter wheat is growing like mad. Got the garden rows mulched and carrots and lettuce in. Putting heat loving plants in the greenhouse. Bugs are coming out, I found a tick on the dog(hate that part of spring). The birds are buildings nests everywhere. The groundhogs are putting on some weight and are becoming targets for the dogs. Fixing the fences so when the new dairy calves come(I board them also) we don't have a repeat of the running of the bulls. Putting in a new gas line and laying out where the brick oven will go. Taking a deep breath now because you don't get to breath again here until October.

baby goats, baby rabbits, lots of eggs from the hens, training new momma goats to stand still while getting milked, garden is growing and new seeds/plants go in every 2 weeks, fixing fences, making playing ramps for baby goats, lots of work and way too many mosquitos and fire ants.
One of the best compliments from one of my daughters: "Moma, you smell good...like dirt." |

Well, I just cleaned the milk room out getting ready to start the real milking in about a week. I am so excited to be back milking! It's been longer this time for them to be dried off. But they ll have had their kids and are just about ready to start giving us some of that yummy milk.
I would love to be in the garden right now. But it's way too wet and I can't get my tiller started anyway. I have planted some in the raised beds and cold frame. But I want to get out in the big gardens and get them all started.

Wow! You are all very busy. It is to cold here to plant gardens. That does not happen here until May. We are farming and calving. Our little ones (kids) keep us busy as well. I am loving this spring weather.

I have lambs and kids, the first big order of meat chicks are due here in a few days, along with turkey poults. The kitchen garden is ready to be planted, and the canning garden was just tilled and the rows are being made. The orchard is weeded, and the bubblers are all cleaned/repaired and ready to bubble. I have calfs due anyday, along with piglets, my G/sons are glad for spring vacation, and they are a great help. And this is only the beginning, I'm now swamped til winter.

Teresa, what are bubblers?? And wow are you a busy lady. I sure wish I could start planting. But I know I will some day soon. I always feel this way about mow. I just get too antsy.

Kristin, they are part of my watering system for my trees, you run that black plastic water lines and add "bubblers" at each tree, the water comes out slowly and bubbles so there is no soil erosion.

Everything is getting green, the cattle are starting to graze and the calves are running and bucking. I have onions, lettuce and radishes coming up in my garden. Ah, spring. My favorite time of year.

Hi Judy,
When do you plant your gardens in Oklahoma? That is great to have stuff already coming up. We cannot even plant until May here. Our nights still are freezing.

weeds, weeds & more weeds! 5 acres of weeds!....getting ready to drop pasture grass seed down and then gotta work (DH & me)on repairing the fence line,,,did I mention weeds? lol!
Rained all day yesterday but the sun is shining bright this morning & I am grabbing my camera & heading outside....the Spring Wild Flowers are popping their heads up & I don't want to miss them! lol!

| Too soon for much planting here in N. Mich. Got my potatoes and some grass seed down, beds are ready with lots of rabbit manure mulching. Rabbits are waiting until I stop watching to have their babes! Eggs are in the incubator. Time to trim goat and horse hoofs, as soon as I can get a grandson here to help. Trying to finish up my Winter projects, got to hurry! Did my Spring cleaning while the snow was still here so I wouldnt miss a minute of Spring, it only lasts a few weeks here. Will be making soap and brooding my meat chicks next week, New kids in April and May will be bottle babies. Couldnt find an adult dairy goat that was affordable, so will be starting from scratch, cant wait. |

The vegetable garden is growing by the day. However, the cats are a little too curious. The beds are raised, so when we planted the seeds, the cats decided we had made them some extra long litter boxes. Oh, my hubby was not too happy with those outside cats. I ran outside telling him my cats would never do such a thing, and it look like coyote prints to me. Well, he put long skinny criss-cross sticks in the beds, thinking the coyotes would stay out of it. Nope! Now he has a too-short screen around the beds. I don't think that will work either. We shall see!
Our sunflowers are growing tall already! My elephant ear bulbs are not up yet. They are my favorite.

I am running behind by about 3 weeks for my area. I did get my peas in the ground. And my poor, sweet DH has built me 2 blueberry boxes, and the first of 3 strawberry boxes. The blueberry bushes are in the boxes and the strawberries will be in the first box tomorrow. I will also have the lettuce and spinach in if the weather holds. Then we start on building the new compost bins, manure storage bin, and sawdust storage bin. Then we start on the chicken coup my husband has his heart set on and the rabbit cages my middle daughter is insisting on. The nieghbor gave us he strawberries and told us we could have all the rasberry bushes if we'd dig them out for him. So we have to prep a site for those as well. Plus we are trying to figure out where to put the mulberry trees my dad is giving me for my birthday. I almost forgot! The insurance company wants us to take out 6 trees around the house that are leaning towards the house. My DH decided to leave 4 or 5 feet of the trunk and cut cuby holes in them for my outside statue collection. Losing the trees sucks, but the display area will be amazing!

Cleaning the yard and starting seeds inside... like you we don't plant for at least anothe 6 weeks or so.

Calving, Calving, Calving. I still have a little snow on my garden, but I have cleaned out the flower beds out around the buildings, cleaned the shop up and have been working on raking the lawn. We still have several weeks before I can get in the garden so in the meantime will get the rest of my trees pruned before they come out of dormancy and probably have to do some digging for hubby once he gets started in the field.

started some indoor planting here..it's to cold at night and we still have a few more frosts in store to transplant outdoors yet..hopefully by the second week in may I can move the operation to the field lol I have been up to my neck in chicks and ducks over the past 3 weeks it has been great!!!!!!and messy we were brooding indoors till this week and finally they are outside with heatlamps loving life on our five acres good luck to everyone with the spring planting season!

Tilling the garden, will start my peas and onions soon. Some plants are growing inside as well. I have two new dwarf apple trees to plant and a front "hill" to remove that the previous owners put in, and it is causing flooding against the house and we now have a fondation to repair! We are redoing all our fencing and making some minor changes to the barn for my new Nigerian Dwarf goats. We have chicken coops to clean and lime. Stalls are in need of lime again. Manure removal in the pastures and paddocks, along with shearing a llama and grooming a horse are all coming soon. Then there is the up coming farm call by a vet and farrier soon. We are still under construction on the inside of the house too. And I am starting my new career as a Realtor also. Mt youngset daughter is turning 16 soon so we are planning a party for her. I guess that sums most of it up.

Planting our 8000+ sq garden -- some raised beds, some on the 'flat'. I've planted just about everything but our red potatoes, Moon & Stars watermelon, my pie pumpkins and my smaller patch of Peaches & Cream corn back in the old pig pen. Then there's the mowing, the spring cleaning, inside and out, and just the enjoyment of being outside in the warm spring air! Oh, yeah. I LOVE my life and my farm!!! Yippee!!!!!
