What is your signature dish......
-what you frequently bring to potlucks and parties.

-what dish your family loves the most.

I'm known for my Black Bean Salsa and am requested to bring it to gatherings.

My husband's favorite dish of mine is Jambalaya...spicy!

One of the best compliments from one of my daughters: "Moma, you smell good...like dirt."

My "Feather Bed" rolls----A very light potato bread dinner roll.

I have been informed by my sisters-in-law that when I go to my great reward, I will be first and foremost remembered by my delicious Feather Beds... LOL!

My family loves my enchiladas (old family recipe)

I'm asked to send my pasta sauce when cooking for families for our church when we're blessing someone with food.

My chicken casserole! No need to ask what to bring to a pot luck, it's always the same!

Mine would either be a cheese ball or cherry salad. Most of the time when someone invites me to a potluck they'll tell me which one of these to bring. Both are really easy to make so that is good for me and I like eating them as well, so a double plus for me!

It depends on the gathering - deviled eggs is one, then zucchini chocolate cake, mmm. My son loves that cake - I took it to my in-laws for dinner once and he ate more than half of it. I had to remind him that perhaps other people would like some since that was, in fact, why I had brought it.

I make a chocolate cake that is baked on a cookie sheet and iced while it is hot so that the icing melts into the cake. Yummmm, I have even had people offer to buy it. I took one to a cake auction once in Scotland and the School House Charity got 30 pounds for it.

For family dinners, I am asked to bring a layered salad--the one with green peppers, frozen peas, waterchestnuts, boiled eggs and sour cream/mayo dressing.

If it's springtime, I'm always asked to bring my fruit salad that is made with a simple syrup of honey, fresh mint and lime juice. It's WONDERFUL...apparently

I also make an appetizer that I'm always asked to bring in the winter:
phyllo cups baked with parmesan, white cheddar, chopped pears, dijon mustard and onion. Really yummy and never one left on the platter.

Also springtime, I'm asked to make Benedictine sandwiches (for Derby day).

Hi Jonni!

Your fruit salad with the honey, mint and lime sounds delicious. Would you possibly be willing to share the recipe? You could e-mail me if you don't want to print it here. We have honeybees, so I'm always looking for a new recipe made with honey.

Thanks!
Luanne

Absolutely, Luanne...thank you for asking. It's such a simple recipe, too!

I always use a mix of green grapes, red grapes, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries and when, in season, blackberries and raspberries. I use a rather large bowl so as to be able to stir the syrup into the fruit.
The syrup is a 1/3 cup honey, a 1/3 cup fresh squeezed lime juice and 1/3 cup finely chopped fresh mint. Mix together well and pour into fruit. Stir well, making sure to extend throughout fruit, but not to bruise or smash fruit. A spatula works nicely :) Chill for at least an hour and you're good to go!

My husbands family always asks for my pies, cherry and apple. I make a homemade lard and butter crust and a mix of sweet and tart cherries, with cinnamon and almond extract. I use honey and lots of sweet spices in my apple.

All these sound so yummy. It's so cool how everyone has something different.

We should probably compile a farmgirl cookbook, or just make sure we all swap!

I don't really cook a lot, but I love to bake, and my favorite thing to bake is Alton Brown's Chewy Chocolate Cookie. Everyone I have ever given one too has loved it!

I bring or folks requeast my taco pie. It's a variation on those 7 layer Mexican dishes.

A good friend and I made one together once in her kitchen. I memorized the recipe by watching her. She thinks it's funny 'cause it's so easy to make. I do too when people start to rave.

So whenever opportunity comes up to make one, either for potlucks or just our regualr dinner, I always offer up a word of thank for my friend

Sweet cream biscuits with honey butter, cream cheese dip (cream cheese, green onions, and chopped beef lunch meat), and spinach-artichoke dip with toast points. Notice a theme? Lol... I also almost always bring veggie trays or fruit trays to potlucks and parties. No one ever gives up veggies and dip or fruit, especially around holiday times!

Why, a MaryJane's Bakeover, of course!
It really has come to be a regular in my cooking routine. I make one about once a month. I have used any number of veggie/cheese/meat combos. I just throw in whatever I have that sounds good to me at the time. I use the recipe for the crust that is in The Ideabook, Lifebook. I add a bit more butter to it and add herbs and/or cheese to the crust. I also bake it longer than MJ does, as I love crispy edges. I usually just make it for my husband and me, but when we have shared it with others, they have loved it too.
Just like soup, it has become a great leftover/fridge cleaner, allowing me to use things up.

Peace, Love, and Joy
