I am looking for some unusual things to bake for a horse event next month. We always have hot dogs and that kind of stuff and then baked items. They get alot of brownies and some cake, so I wanted to do something different. It is sometimes hot that weekend, so it would need to stand up in heat. Any ideas????

I think some folks did bags of a homemade "chex mix" for a 4H bakesale.

Muffins funny decorated cupcakes Cinnamon Rolls Individual bags of homemade cookies Scones, BIG cookies
I was going to suggest cheesecake, but that doesn't stand up to heat very well. Coffee cake is a good one. People love it but you don't see it around much anymore except in a few high end coffee shops.

CARROT CAKE!!! What could possibly be better for a horse event? You could even make carrot cake cupcakes. :)

How about some horseshoe shaped butter cookies? Right about now, with the Kentucky Derby coming up, there are horse themed bake things everywhere. You could ice them, or sprinkle with fun sugars. Let's see:
You can also do bags of homemade granola (that sells for $4.00).
What about pie by the slice? I've done that before, and it's a great thing...and to extend that thought, what about savory pies like quiches, or even "pasty's" (Cornish meat pies) that you can make with sausage, beef potatoes and cheese. Those make great hand held walkin' around food and Guys LOVE em!

Since Easter is next month, you could make some sort of bunny cake. My Mom also saw a picture of these bunny cupcakes. It was a cupcake with a bunny shaped and frosted cookie sticking out of it. It was so cute. God's Blessings, Megan aka Loretta Rae

*runs over to her bookshelf* (well, ok I didn't run) heeeheheee
"People Seed" recipe by Carolyn Saum, Applehood & Motherpie (cookbook)
A no-cook, easy snack that is very habit-forming.
~ raisins, chocolate chips, popped popcorn, peanuts, Chinese noodles, sunflower seeds, chopped dates, small pretzels
1. Combine equal amounts of any of the listed ingredients to suit your taste. 2. Store in covered container.
You could scoop these into zip lock bags for individual portions! You can vary the recipe, I have added dried cranberries, golden raisins... the possibilities are endless!

No bake cookies! These call for oats, so you could add a little granola just for kicks and extra crunch
Rice crispy treats
plain 'ole chocolate chip cookies w/ no nuts |

What about Baklava or some other Greek pastry? Also, cake balls are always fun- cake mix, cream cheese, and frosting; bake the cake, mix all ingredients till incorporated, then shape in balls, stick in lollipop sticks, stick in the freezer, freeze for an hour or so, then take them out, melt some chocolate coating, and dip them in!!!! You can top them with sprinkles and whatnot.
Starbucks and sushi to green fried tomatoes and corn pudding-I wouldn't change it for the world. www.cattleandcupcakes.blogspot.com |

This is a huge hit at all the bake sales I've done, especially in the heat 2 bags oyster crackers 1 pk Hidden Valley dry ranch dressing 1 cup oil 1 tbl dill garlic powder Mix together, let sit overnight and there you go. I like garlic, so I add a lot. My daughter spent three weeks in Europe with Girl Scouts, and we had tons of bake sales to get them there. Baggies of these sold for a dollar, and they were cheap to make. Good luck, Carol
Forget buns of steel, I'd rather have buns of cinnamon!

I made this for my dd's 11th birthday but it could easily be made & put into bags or boxes for a bake sale. It made so much I gave it out to friends who RAVED about it! I omitted the sugars - I figured it was sweet enough. But if you wanted to use it for color. The original recipe calls for "sanding sugar". That really fine sugar in the decorator section in the cake aisles. (I bet mini marshmallows would be good in this too!)
* 3 cups salted peanuts * 1 (16oz) bag mini pretzels *1 (15oz) bo of raisins * 1 box corn and rice chex mix * 1 box toasted oat cereal * 2 package white chocolate morsels, melted * ½ cup pink sugar * ½ cup red sugar
* In a large container, combine peanuts, pretzels, corn and rice chex and toasted oat cereal. Pour melted white chocolate over the top and stir gently to coat the mixture evenly. * Spoon mixture onto wax paper in a 1-inch layer. Sprinkle with ¼ cup of each sugar color. Stir gently to break up the large clumps. Sprinkle with the remaining sugar. Cool completely.

Wrap slices of watermelon in plastic wrap. Display in a cooler of ice. It will sell like crazy!
