I don't know if anyone else does this but I was out in my garden clearing out old weeds and I happened to find several gorgeous earth worms! I said to my little friends, "Why hello there! I am excited to see you! Welcome to early spring! Make sure to stick around because exciting things are to come and I know you'll enjoy it here in my garden!" Its so exciting that at the end of winter you can return to your garden and have a reminder that the soil is still alive!

I do too! I am always looking out for the small helpful garden friends and glad to see them in the early spring. I'm thinking of trying to grow some worms this year as well as some praying mantis. I am excited to have winter on the way out and garden time approaching!

I do it too! And I always try to set them a side when I am digging. Last year I was horrified when Nora stretched a couple worms to death. Yikes! So I had to give her the "No hurt the worms" talk. She was just a little over 2 so she didn't realize what she was doing. I am hoping for a more helpful garden hand this year! LOL

We feed any grubs we find to the chickens and relocate worms to the garden. It's a big deal to find em around here!

I love worms! There's nothing wrong with talking to them Alyssa Marie! They need to know that not everyone hates them:)

Ah, how sweet! I have to tell mine to hurry up and get back down under or some chickens will snatch you up! I have been digging in my gardens and have seen tons of nice juicy looking worms. A very good sight to see.

I love my worms, too! When a big gooey one is unearthed with my digging, I immediately check to see if I chopped it in half by accident. I tell them to keep working hard. Finding worms in the garden plots is like an affirmation that I'm doing things right.

I had a great-uncle that was a "worm farmer"...seriously.... He made his living growing/raising worms for stores and bait shops. As a kid I thought it was gross and cool all at the same time. He taught me about their anatomy and mating habits. I'd excitedly tell my friends what I learned and they swiftly told me I was weird. Today, I am so proud to be able to speak of the wonderful world of worms!! HA HA

One of the best compliments from one of my daughters: "Moma, you smell good...like dirt."

I am so glad I found this place. Now I know that I'm not a lunatic for talking to worrm, frogs, and dirt. When we were tilling this week I exclaimed " Hello Mr Worm, so glad to see you again". I also told DH that I could hear the frogs on their way to our pond. He just smiled and said "that's nice dear"!

My son loves worms (yes- to death also some times). He will spend hours following me around in the field in hopes I'll uncover some worms. When we do -he carries them in a can every where he goes. At some point durng the day he starts to wonder where the worms mommys are- at that point I convince him maybe they should go back to the field so they can be reunited with their moms. It's so cute! It went on all summer last year- I'm wondering if the love affair will continue this season.
