Okay girls, I want to hear all your thoughts on Kefir!!!![](icons/icon_smile_big.gif) I need to start eating/drinking it.
I would also like to make my own.
Do you like it/hate it? Do you buy it at the store or make your own? Any tips on making it taste good if you make it? Can I make some from the kind I buy in the store- use it as a starter, or do I need to order a special starter kit?
Has it helped your health/digestive tract?
Recipes using Kefir? Thank you all in advance! ![](icons/icon_smile.gif)

Brenda, I buy Kefir in the organic section, it is lowfat & comes in various flavors & they are all absolutely delicious. It is like drinking a thick creamy yogur, but more in milkshake form. I usually get the pomegranate, but just got some that was vanilla & it is just as good. Not too sweet either, which I hate. I have a lead stomach, & can eat nearly everything, so I can't tell if it has helped anything, but I know that it hasn't hurt. Good luck! |

I love kefir. A friend had some grains and she gave me some. I made it with my goat milk. Then I let it go bad. I need more. With the grains you just keep adding more milk and straining the grians. They go on forever. I need to get more because I'll be in goat milk soon.
I Buy Earthway organic whole milk kefir now. It's good. But I like homemade better. And yes, it helps me alot with the digestion.
You can find people on the internet that sell the grains.

Thanks Lisa for the info! I will be eating it more for health reasons than taste.... ;) I've always hated yogurt, yuck, can't stand the taste, but recently have started eating Stonyfield Farms Organic and now really love it!!! I am thinking that there are good Kefirs and then there are bad Kefirs, lol!

A good friend and fellow farmgirl (herbquilter)gave me some starter grains yesterday. i was really hesitant about it because I had never tried it. She put a little in a cup with a few drops of stevia and a little jam. Now I am excited to try my first batch in the morning. I am not doing it for the love of the taste... it's definitely for the health benefits. She uses it to make pancakes and waffles, smoothies, etc. I plan to put in bananas and other fruit and my herb tinctures for breakfast in the morning. I also plan to use it in baking such as "buttermilk" biscuits. It's a new adventure for me, but I am looking forward to the health benefits.
Do what you love, love what you do. |

Aha! Thanks for even more information! :) So, I need Kefir grains I've figured out. Any good sources for getting them? Do they need to be refrigerated?
