I went to our local Amish Grocery this weekend. I love buying bulkand the barter system is great.I have started trading my homemade granola in the neighborhood for fresh eggs and farm raised chicken! I am trying to talk the neighbor into getting milk goats so I can make cheese.

I shop several times a year at an Amish bulk foods store in Lancaster County, PA. Everything is very fresh and the prices when buying bulk are so much cheaper - amazing! I'm headed there again in a couple of weeks - gotta get my list made!

I have been to one little Amish community in Tn years ago. Everyone just stared at us. It was wierd. I'm sure it's different now. I would love to go again. We have lots of Mennonite people around here. I just love them.

I love to barter. I have bartered goats milk for all kinds of things. And eggs, too. I just recently bartered eggs for hay. I would so much rather do that than use money. Although money comes in handy!

We have a local Amish Store called Brubaker's about 45-minutes drive from here. We LOVE it! The deli meats are always very fresh and I just love buying the dehydrated pre-mixed calico soup blends. The whole wheat bread is just like grandma used to make. My DH and I go there once in a while and gather supplies for a picnic drive around the county...

I buy all of my baking goods from our Amish store! It is fantastic..everything is so fresh and nice. We (my DH and I) also go up to the Sugarcreek area in Ohio about two or three times a year. We both look forward to a stop at Lehman's hardware store and there are a few other places we just have to visit when we go. The cheese shops are devine and there is even a couple of "flea" markets.

Hi Laila -

I go to the Centerville bulk foods store. It is on the corner of Centerville Road & Scenic Road in Leola/New Holland (just off Groffdale Road) if you are familiar at all with that area. I have Amish friends who live on Musser School House Road.

I try to go down several times a year to visit my friends and shop. I will be going down in two weeks for the annual Gordonville Fire Company mud sale. They auction off a lot of local crafts and quilts as well as antiques, livestock, etc. I have come home with some beautiful quilts at reasonable prices in the past. Wish me luck!!

Hi Emily -

There are several bulk foods in the Lancaster area that I know of. See my post to Laila above - that is the one I usually go to!

We have a wonderful Amish town near us - Kalona, Iowa about an hour
from Cedar Rapids, They have baked goods and wholesale and bulk also
and in the summer fresh. Can't beat their fresh rhubarb-strawberry pies and angel food cakes.

Pamila, we go down to Sugarcreek in Summer too. We just love Lehman's Old Time Hardware. And You are right...the cheeses around the area are "To-Die-For!" It makes for a great day-trip. Where else do you like to go when you come here? We like Walnut Creek, especially in fall. It's gorgeous!
