I wear long skirts and dresses in the summer almost everyday. I absolutely love the feel of a skirt blowing in the summer breeze. With spring just around the corner, I am looking eagerly at my collection of farmgirl dresses in my closet.

Where does everyone get their skirts? Do you buy them or make them?

Julie....some of the girls above have posted some great websites. I go to Goodwill for mine...they always have peasant skirts for about 4.00 each.I have made some, but mostly I make coulottes and buy skirts. ;-)

I have made some, found some at the store or thrift and re-purposed some dresses into skirts. I love wearing skirts and jumpers. I like them at least calf-length. Can be denim, "hippy", broomstick, a-line, or even gathered with a tie at the waist. As long as they are comfy. I have started wearing leggings on cold days and have been known to throw on wool socks too. My purpose is to be warm and comfy.

Being as a lot of my life is spent either in uniform or "men-styled" clothing, I like to look and feel like a girl. Well, as much as a woman of my age can feel like a "girl." LOL

Do what you love, love what you do.

I love wearing skirts. I do wear jeans off and on but skirts are more fun!! I make a lot of my own, but I can't fallow a pattern for the life of me, inless someone helps me. But I make them just the same.

Lisa,
I'm not thin at all, and am also quite um large at the top too...I find skirts to be very comfortable, and I think an a-line shape or something without a lot of gathers looks best on me? Not exactly sure, but it is what I enjoy wearing! Find a fun skirt you love, or some fabric you love to make a skirt, and enjoy!

Megan, "I'm definitely "curvier" and in the summer I have some...issues shall I say..."
I can relate, if you are meaning what I think you are meaning...my thighs don't like skirts in the summer either, so I wear old tights cut off above the knees under the skirt. I would like to make knickers in very light weight material so I don't add any bulk to my silouette. When I was little, my mom got me coulotte slips to wear under my school uniform so that when I was on the monkey bars, I could maintain some modesty!

Girls, I'm with ya! I have the same problem in summer. My thighs and boobs are miserable in the 90-100+ heat that we can get here. Therese, thanks so much for the cut off remedy! That may work nicely
(Trying to loose 40 odd pounds...) but it ain't goin'away very fast and summers comin'.
I feel like a lamp shade in overly bunched and ruffled fabric, so I stick to straight or a-line styles.

Here are some free skirt patters from online =)

I wear skirts too a LOT. I make most mine but sometimes buy from goodwill.

I'm 4'8, over weight and wear a size H to I cup bra....yeah a lot of top!

I wear skirts basically the same I would jeans....shirt on the outside. I would like to wear more belts, but haven't started to yet. I want to buy the my favorite things skirt patterns too! I just bought the coullet book and the petite plus book...next year for the favorite things though. Right now my favorite skirt pattern is a maternity one, by blessed designs...I think called Florinda. I love it. And have made it several times.

For the thighs, lots of powder! lol haha

For tights you may want to try vermount country store.

I also like Dillard's 100 percent silk long john's. I think I'm going to make some bloomers...I really like coulet's free pattern for bloomers (short ones) and want to try it soon!

I have wore skirts for years, in the winter I just add cotton slips, two or three which make a dead air space and keeps you warmer! Roxanna

I'm a skirts girl! And I'm on the heavy side. A good pair of biker shorts does wonders for the thighs! (and some anti-monkey butt powder!) My problem is I hate, really hate wearing bras! I actually get horrid headache when I wear one too long. I've been to several places that measure and fit you for the right one, I've tryed sereval brands, but can't find one that will do. I wear alot of spandex type undershirts but still feel immodest (the girls can be quite noticeable sometimes, if you know what I mean) oh well, it's fun being a girl!

Well I have found that bras are not about measurements alone, a lot has to do with the shape of your breast, not all bras are made for the shape. For instance a Elomi 40H fits me fine, a Anita 40H the cups are too small. I went to my intimacy in NYC to be fitted and they did the best ever. No measureing, but they did feel me up! lol haha To get the right bra for my shape. My favorite brands are Elomi and Bella Donna. All that being said I am taking a bra making class that people rave over, next week. I can't wait!

Heather, enjoy your class! I've thought of making my own bra type shirt, a sort of spandex tank top with a quilted top area for modesty. hmmm, I'll quilt just about anything! ha

Spandex has never worked for me for a bra....wovens (no stretch) has worked better for me things with stretch, really really stretch with wear for me when it comes to a bra. lol haha And makes me look dowdy.

I wear blue jean skirts they are straight A line. And I am a plus I like my clothes a little loose because its more comfy. I find mine at Goodwill
and we have a Mennnonite Store and they actually have my size in their blue skirts. Its a thrift shop. They are ankle length which I like. Plus I like to go to garage sales etc.

I am plus size and love wearing skirts, they are a lot more comfortable than pants. Depending on where you wear your weight will determine what style is best. Mine unfortunately is on my hips so I have found that the gore skirts work best because I can adjust the pattern the easiest and they seem to be the most flattering on me. Wrap skirts are harder to do because of the hips but with some strategic darts you can make it work. I try to stick with fitted waistbands instead of elastic so I minimize the bulk at my waist. I like this site for some of their patterns: http://craftstew.com/sewing/free-skirt-patterns.

I love wearing skirts, and I get a lot from Goodwill. Most warm days I will wear a skirt for work. i almost always wear a skirt at home with an apron because they look so feminine. This was mentioned in an earlier post, I also love how the fabric feels and looks when they flow in the breeze.
I have bought heavier cotton skirts from Deva Life Wear. They last forever and are warm in the winter with some tights.

I am getting into skirts. DivaHick- I totally know what you are saying. I put on very lightweight shorts (kind of knit ones or a very very lightweight undergarment that is sort of a pullup girdle, but more flimsy than a traditional girdle) and that keeps the thighs from rubbing together - a problem for me in the past. These garments are VERY lightweight and cannot be detected under my skirts. I also prefer my skirts on the long side. But I am getting into wearing skirts a lot more since I figured this out!!

I've just started wearing skirts more often and I've got a couple that are super comfortable. Well, hubby bought them for me. He's got a much better sense of style than I do. He bought me a jersey skirt from Life Is Good which is so comfortable, but pricey. My mother's day gift. :)
