Hey Farmgirls, Just thought I'd share a pic of some of the merit badges I've completed. Since the badge for each category is the same design for all three levels, I decided I didn't want to make a separate badge for each level of the same design. I also wrote on the lower left edge that name of that category using fine tipped Millenium pen.
Instead, I decided to sew a button on the lower right edge for each level I have earned. Some of the ones pictured have only one button . . . I haven't submitted applications for more than beginner level.
And, for "Buttoned Up" I decided to sew actual buttons on instead of embroidering button designs. And, with "Quilting" is used some pieces of some favorite fabrics and applied with Wonder-Under onto the badge instead of embroidering the quilt designs. The buttons on the Quilting Badge are in a different spot and a bit harder to see.
Anyway, just wanted to share . . . I have more that I'm working on and will be submitting more applications as well.
THANKS FOR LOOKING!!! CJ

Kyria . . . feel free to copy the ideas, I don't mind. That's kinda why I shared . . . just in case anyone else liked them.
I'm not sure what I will do with the badges yet, but leaning towards making a wall quilt. I really don't want to put them on something that is going to get a lot of wear and tear. I don't want them to get "roughed" up. But because I'm working on more badges I'm not in a big hurry to put them into the quilt. Just earning them and getting them "made up" is good for me!!!
Post some pics when you have some of yours done . . . if you can. CJ

Cj Love the idea of the buttons to show the different merit badge levels. I am working on my first one, but you have given me some great ideas for decorating them.

What good ideas. I am just starting to work on merit badges and I wondered what they looked like. So one can sort of do their own thing within limits of course?

Maryan, I think you can do whatever you want with your badges when you earn them. I've heard of farmgirls sewing them on totebags, making them into quilts, etc., etc. Each category has a particular design and it is the same for all levels. I've never seen anything that tells us we have to finish them any particular way . . . so creativity works!!! CJ

Hi CJ, Those are great. I copied all of my badges last week but have not started embroiderying them. I like that you wrote the name of each badge. I have never heard of the fine tipped Millenium pen. Where do you get it? Is it a craft pen or a regular writing pen?

Thanks girls!!
I haven't actually sewn them into a quilt yet . . .kinda waiting until I get some more earned and badges completed. I have a total of 13 badges embroidered and completed, 8 of them have 3 buttons on them (earned all three levels) and 5 of them have one button. I have 3 more to embroider and finish, all of them will have 3 buttons. Since I'm working on others I have not started putting it all together in the quilt yet.
The pen is a ZIG pen, and I used the 05 size to write on these. I have had them for a while and don't remember exactly where I got them but I'm sure you can get them anywhere you can get all those craft pens. Says on the pen that it is "pigment ink, acid-free, archival quality, lightfast, waterproof, fade proof, non-bleeding". Seems to work well on fabric!! Hope that helps. . . if not let me know and I'll see what other info I can come up with.
Anyway, thanks again!!! I wish you all the best on your badges . . I've had fun with it! CJ

CJ where would I go to see the print out of all the different badges? I have looked but don't seem to find it. Thanks a bunch. Brenda

Brenda, I've never seen anyplace that shows what the badges look like. I don't know if there is any. You might email meritbadges@maryjanesfarm.org to ask. I only find out what they look like when I earn one and I get an email attachment to print out the badge template and the certificate. Same for the certificates except it appears that the general appearance for a category is the same . . .example would be that all the certificates for Stitching and Crafting will have the same art work . . .just the info entered on it for YOU and the badge you have earned is specific. They have been pretty creative with their designs . . .
That's all I know . . .:) CJ

Thanks for the email letting me know where to see your badges! I *~LOVE~* the use of the buttons instead of lines to denote the level of experience. I think we should adopt that for everyone!
Great ideas here.
Thx again, Giselle |
