I'm thinking about getting an outdoor cat to help with a rodent problem but I like to let my chickens out to graze around. Do you think it would be a problem with a "barn" cat?
Most cats will leave the chickens alone. They recognize that the chickens are usually bigger than them. I have never had any problems with mixing cars and chickens. MB
PS. Washington cats are too cool to chase a chicken. LOL
I have more "barn cats" than chickens most of the time (cause people are always dumping them out here), and I've never had a problem with them bothering my chickens.
"Treat the earth well, it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children"
My cat hangs out with the chickens and plays with them. I have one cat who stalks my roo and annoys him on purpose. :) The other one is terrified of chickens, and stays away.
We have four cats out at our stable and a whole flock of chickens. I have never seen them interact either negatively or positively. They just act like the other group doesn't exist.
Our barn cat was raised right along with the chickens. They get along just fine. She even helps herself to a drink of water in the chicken coop sometimes.
