What kind do you use? Do you make your own? How? I use a organic and natural tooth soap that works really really well and its good for your teeth. Hugs, Channah

I have just been using straight baking soda and rinsing with hydrogen peroxide. Seems to be working pretty well.

I just use regular old sensitive toothpaste. I tried this "tooth soap" once. I really liked brushing with it, but after a few weeks I looked in the mirror one morning and my teeth were GRAY! I thought my teeth had died or something, but when I looked closer, I realized that it was literally soap scum on my teeth from the grayish-green tooth soap I had been using. Yuck! Needless to say, I am afraid of some of the more natural stuff now LOL!

I have an extreme sensitivity to sorbitol, a sweetener that is cheap and used in just about everything. Candies, hotdogs, toothpaste, breathfreshners, gum, it is everywhere. The only toothpaste that I have found that doesn't contain it,, is Tom's of Maine. I can use it and the mouthwash they make as well. It is pretty widely available, even at Walmart. N@n in Ark.
keep searchin'-it's out there somewhere. |

I guess I need to go back to baking soda again. I bought some Nature's Gate from the 7th Day Adventist store and if I had been able to read the ingredients, I wouldn't have gotten it. It has Methylparaben in it. It is the next to last thing but still. Darn. I think I need to keep my glasses with me when I shop. They make everything so small anymore no one can read it.

I make my own, and I can't stand the stuff from the store anymore! It's just chemically tasting, and all that icky foam!!! All mine is, is: 1 cup baking soda 1/3 cup glycerin 1 teaspoon peppermint essential oil
Just mix it well, and then use! It's great! You can use other essential oils, but be careful...my mom used lemon once, and it tasted like Pledge furniture polish!!! Seriously..it was awful!

I use Tom's of Maine also. It doesn't have any funny things in it [so far]. This is important to me since I have FM and have a problem with EVERYTHING they add to products. Why do they have to add smelly stuff to every women's product on the market?! And it doesn't even smell like a real flower or anything! I use Close Up because I cant find any natural that doesnt have baking soda in it as I am allergic to baking soda it makes my gums have sores. So if anyone knows of a good natural without the baking soda Id love to hear about it. Blessings,Karen

Channah,
Could you share with us what kind of toothpaste that you use? We have nuo health food stores in my area and it is hard to find anything natural. So I usually have to order off the internet to get certain things.

I agree that Natures Gate pretends to be natural, but if you look at the ingredients, it might as well be conventional! |

I use Power Smile from Jason, co. Occasionally, I will use baking soda and peroxide just to get into the crevices of the tooth enamel.

I use tooth soap from perfect-prescription.com . I also use their tooth brightener and tooth swish and with good results. If you don't like the idea of brushing with soap some other brands I like are Tate's the natural miracle toothpaste and SilvaFresh from TriMedica which is a SilvaSolution homeopathic Anti-bacterial toothpaste. It contains homeopathic silver, aloe vera, marigold, belladonna, sage, myrrh, eucalyptus, plantain, strwberry leaves, vitamin K, and xylitol. Also I should mention I have very sensitive teeth and all of these products have worked beautifully for me. |

I use Burt's Bees whitening toothpaste. I like using something more natural and less over-flavored than the big commercial brands, but I also want toothpaste with fluoride in it. This gives me both of those in addition to whitening, which is helpful, since I drink coffee and/or tea at least once a day. |

I was using tooth soap I made myself for a few years. I put in peppermint EO, myrrh EO, and green clay. The very first time I used it, I was aware of the difference from regular toothpastes, it cleaned that much better. But somehow that effect eventually wore off and it didn't seem like it was cleaning like it used to so I recently switched to Trader Joe's brand. I like it because it is the only toothpaste I have found that doesn't have SLS in it. I get weird eczema patches at the corners of my mouth using SLS toothpastes and even the "natural" ones seem to have it now. I wish it had fluoride, though. After reading extensively on both sides of the fluoride debate, I have come to the conclusion that fluoride is good in toothpaste and bad in our drinking water. Not that they are listening to me LOL.

Strange - the Toms sold around here has SLS in it. They must make different formulas regionally. Toms was actually the first brand I checked when I decided to go back to "paste".

What is SLS?
I have used Tom's of Maine's Fennel toothpaste. I really like plain baking soda as I can't tolerate fluoride. Suzanne |

SLS - Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. It's a cheap surfactant that's added to shampoos and toothpastes, among other things. Many are sensitive to it, and it easily creates sensitivity with regular use in many others. Regular use would be most folks these days, it's hard to find toiletries without it. Other ingredients often are blamed for problems when SLS is the real culprit, because it's not as readily identifiable as scent or coloring. Nasty stuff!
