Tanya, I'm a self-taught knitter, too! But I can only do regular knitting and purling. I do hope to learn more, though! God's Blessings, Megan aka Loretta Rae

I'm getting ready to start an afgan, however the directions tell me to use 5mm circular needle that is 36in long. I have the 29 inches and can't seem to find the 36" in the store. My question to you knitters, can I use the 29" instead of the 36" I have to cast on 200 stiches! Am I asking for trouble? Thanks for any help |

you would be surprised how much that 7" will make-if i were you i would try to find the size it calls for. ask a friend if they have one you could borrow or go to a yarn shop alot of times they have items like that

After thinking about it,you're proberly right Mary Jo. That extra 7" most likely would make a difference. I found the 36" needles on line, my next question do I want plastic, bamboo or aluminum? |

Mary Jo, I like bamboo, too! It feels so much better on your hands than metal! God's Blessings, Megan aka Loretta Rae

Yeah, I'm so glad that I found you gals!!!!!! I too am a knitter and this month I decided I am going to knit me a sweater. I used to knit all the time but I decided I wanted to go to college and get a degree.....what was I thinking! So during my 4 years doing the school thing I totally stopped creating. But now I'm back to knitting and loving it. Mary Jo yippie for you! I love hand knit socks and making the first one isn't bad but just when you think you're done you have to make another.....You go girl!
