Spring will be here before we know it, which brings me to the thoughts of my herb garden. I am anxious to know which herbs wintered over. So while waiting to find out, decided it is time to plan out the herb bed.
After looking over several new recipes, it occurred to me that I still am having to purchase some herbs that I can grow myself. With that in mind, my herb garden is going to be larger this season.
What about all of you? What are your plans for your herb gardens this year?

Here in North Texas, some of my herbs produce all winter long, like the mints and even my thyme has done well. In our vegetable garden we have had brocolli, collards, and cabbage all winter too, despite the fact its been a very cold winter for us. We will be preparing the soil in the herb garden next week for some plantings and hope to see a few things back up by the end of the month. I have a medicinal herb garden and a seperate garden for cooking herbs. I have noticed already that the shepherds purse is coming up, although that is wild in our pasture and along the fence line. I found a patch of mullein hidden under leaves that is still green also.
I plan on putting in Fo-Ti again, what we had was getting old and rather sad looking. May try a few more mints, have 5 varieties now. And we have a hedge row of rosemary planned to go around our rose garden. And once again I will try lavender in another spot to find what it likes best. I have trouble growing lavender on our land, but refuse to give up on it.
Spring is an exciting time of the year for us.

I have a herb wheel in my garden but this year I am going to make an actual herb plot and I'm going to try to do it in the form of a knot garden just for fun?

Although it is snowing outside it warms the heart to think forward to spring and herb gardening. After reading your posts, you got me thinking of adding some new herbs to my list. Mint in more than a couple scents and flavors would be fun. Designing a Knot garden, that has me thinking of what might be possible for our area as a formal garden.
Of course no matter what design or herbs that I decide on, our local moose will still "walk on through" out of curiosity. ( did I mention, they have no regard for fences??)
One thing for sure, the window box on the chicken coop will be filled with Johnny jump-up's, nasturtiums, Chives and maybe some parsley.

Have I thought about my herb garden? That's a funny question. It occupies my thoughts often. I plan on expanding quite a bit this year and I'm very excited! I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do but my cilantro seeds are on the table and a little pot a chamomile is in the window. I keep changing my mind about locations thought. I think DH has given in on the chickens finally! So I have to take them into account and I'm happy to do so.

I am getting ready to start some herbs inside...I plan to plant lots this year. I garden in a group of 3 families we all live in a 3 mile radius but share our harvest. My dad planted several herbs last year (he is one of the 3 farms)and we plan to plant more this year. I didn't process as many as I plan to this year. I hope to dehydrate alot this coming harfest season.

sounds great to be able to share with two other farms!! 
I love to put up all the herbs needed for a long cold winter of cooking.
Nothing warms the soul more than the fruits of your labor simmering in a crock pot of stew!
