I am going to try the round zucchini and some pistou basil, plus some bee balm. Last year I tried to add about 15 things and got overwhelmed so I'm trying to keep it simple this year
How about y'all?

Always have to try a few new varieties of tomatos! My new varieties to try this year (other than the tomatos) are White Bush Scallop Squash and Sweet Chocolate Pepper. I too was a bit overwhelemed last year with my garden and it was a hard push to get it all put up, but worth it in the end. We have decided to reduce the size of the garden by a little this year and concentrate on the items that we need more of this year. Also new this year- I am hoping to add raspberries back into the whole mix. We had yellow raspberries the first few years we were here and they were hit by disease. Now that we have been without for a few year it has been decided to find a spot and plant some more.
By the way Amy Grace, I read on one of your post that you were weeding one day. On that same day I was in the greenhouse getting it ready for the spring season!! It really was a beautiful day.

I am going to try dfferent types of beans, like jacob's cattle, a few others whose names I cannot remember right now. I like the Territorial seed company. I had really good luck with the eightball zucchini, Amy, we loved it as a zucchini parmesan.
Forget buns of steel, I'd rather have buns of cinnamon!

I am going to try some Purple Podded Pole Beans and some Christmas Lima Pole Beans this year, as well as some of the heirloom tomato varieties and some different types of zucchini and sweet peppers.
Better get my seed order in!

Hmmm, now I want to try all of what you all are trying - will try to restrain myself. I would like raspberries but will probably not get them this year - I have to literally bust more sod, I also really, really want a cutting garden. Maybe next year for both

Ill be going to my dads this year and stealing black raspberry canes. he says there are tons. :) We will see if the blueberries I planted last year made it. If not im going to cheat and get full grown ones. I want to expand the tomato's I did last year and add a lattice and poles instead of the string and branches or the cages I used the two previous years. They both fell over. :) Planting cilantro and peppers in front of those and I want to find pablano pepper seeds. Unfortunately my burpee catalog came up missing. Oh well. I have a bag FULL of chive seeds from last year. Mine really seeded like crazy. maybe ill plant some more. Anyone ever do garlic? I planted some last year and missed them. When are they ready? Will they come back this year since I didn't dig them up?

Miranda- You may be suprised by the chives. Mine are in their own area because the continue to re-seed themselves, in fact mine are already 6 inches high. Your garlic probably rotted. If it didnt send up 1-2 foot greens last year then you didn't have any. Here in our area garlic is planted in Sept-Oct and harvested in June. You should be able to find Poblanos at Baker Creek Seeds or Seed Savers Exchange.

Thanks for the tips! :) I dident realizes there was a place for seed trading here. I love my chives! They are very pretty when they bloom. Though I dont really let them. If I dont cut the buds they are no good for cooking. I let them get away from me last season and they had a million seeds it seemed. :( Ill probably end up with lots of babys this season from the seeds I dident catch. I use chives for onions while there in season so maybe a patch of chives is not so bad. We will see. Thanks again!

We cleared a bank on the north end of the pond and I think we are going to put ground cover raspberries there. Has anyone ever grown them. They are supposed to be thornless. We thought about some bearberries next to them too for the wildlife.
I got some seeds from a friend for the green cone flower, so will try that in the side garden this year.

YES! I got my seeds in the mail last weekend and brought the package with me to town to go thru while my husband drove. What is there about looking at seeds??
New things for me is the Mini Pak Choy and upland Rice (doesn't require flooding) also another kind of amaranth. I am hoping to try grinding the amaranth and also corn into flours this fall.

My DH loves chile relleno's----looks like we will be planting some poblano peppers this year---they are HUGE! Never planted peppers before...
More basil for me (I'm a pesto-addict)and definitely more potatoes even though they take up a lot of room in our raised beds!

Dawn...I planted three eggplants this past summer in one of our raised beds---they took a very long time to grow and we barely harvested them before a really big frost hit us---we have a pretty short growing season up here in the North Woods. I have to tell you though if an egg plant can be called beautiful---mine were! What a lovely deep, deep purple color with that spiny green top!! Sorry about that... I get a little excited about my PRODUCE!
I just didn't like the way they tasted....maybe I cooked them wrong! Your Persian stew sounds AWESOME---care to share the recipe??

I agree - eggplants are beautiful. Penny you will have to let us know how the amaranth turns out, I have always wondered about that.
I have to admit my "new" list is getting bigger, hoping to cut myself off soon but....

I want to plant Heirloom Peonys....and more cutting flowers, in fact I think I will re-create my "Sunflower garden" like the one I use to have back in Calif.
I grew Mammoth Sunflowers, they were so tall I had to step up on a step ladder to be able to look 'face-to-face with the heads of my sunflowers. Oh & how the birds loved them.
I am also going to do some 'cuttings/plants/seed' swap with some ladies over here, & buy less seeds....
So Michelle & Amy Grace,,got any seeds you want to swap?
Michelle, I am sad to say the 'Egyptian onion' seedlings you gave me did not survive...my bad!

I received some wonderful seeds in a swap, so most of those are new to me. Sweet peas, "green zebra" tomatoes, melons and some ornamental gourds. I'm also doing heirloom seeds - old time flower garden staples like forget-me-nots, morning glory and Love Lies Bleeding, as well as some spinach, red and purple carrots and hot peppers. I'm trying mustard, kale and turnip sprouts for my chickens as well.
