I am so thrilled to say that after alot of years of waiting, my whole family and I are finally ready~
We are getting our home ready, and taking classes to become licensed foster care/adopt for infants.

There is such a need for good homes to take in children, and so many are intimidated by or don't have time for newborns. My family and I adore newborns! It's a perfect fit for us.

Farm girls are good moms! Kids who get to grow up on farms and play in the dirt are blessed. Mine know it, and want to share the blessings.
You can read more about it on my blog: http://muckbootsnaprons.blogspot.com/2010/01/fostering-newborns.html

thanks! You are all so sweet! Rene' I didn't know you had done that too?

Well, I was just thinking, if anyone wants to take up the cause of these babies with me and sew blankets, burp clothes, etc. I won't complain. I'd love to send each child with a blanket when they leave my home- I just don't sew much at all. My daughter plans on it, but she will be starting cosmetology school school so she won't have as much time either.
Any farm girls out there who want to share with our babies?

I posted on your blog about this...
my daughter & her hubby finished up their classes, training etc to be licensed for the "Foster/Adopt" program to be foster parents w/the option to adopt...with in 4 days they had a 4day old baby in their arms.... their joy is overflowing & I just love kissing that sweet baby all over from head to toe! Now our prayer is for them to be able to keep and adopt this sweet baby. Sadly our little baby didn't get to start life out real easy, she was born of a drug addict mother. Our poor sweet baby had to go through withdrawels....No baby should have to go through this. Anyways she is in the arms of two people who love her dearly and if all goes as planned will grow up always surrounded by dogs, kitties, goats & sheep and a family who loves her.....
Blessings to you for opening your home & hearts.

Hey Firemama, if you want to talk to Meri about what they had to do and are now doing to be Foster Parents, let me know.

Oh & I forgot to tell you,,, check with your local Quilters clubs, & crochet/knitters clubs...a lot of them like to make 'lap' sized baby afgahns/blankets.
I know we have several groups that make blankies that donate them to Halfway homes for mom's w/children as well as the battered womens shelters.
When my daughter got her foster baby the baby arived with a homemade pillow case filled w/some sweet baby goodies, a lil quilt, 2 outfits, bottles a few infant toys and a small book to recode "Baby's 1st" wight/tooth etc....

Our baby had a similar story, but he is 12 now and is as near perfect as any mom would dream.
As a side note. I was a foster kid, myself, both from the age of 2-4 and at the age of 8. My mom was murdered through domestic violence, when I turned 8 and jailed becasue of prostitution when I was 2. Drugs, alchol, abuse was all the norm. I was said to be a "hard case".. seen to much to ever really "snap out of it". I guess it is why I love the sayings that go, "people make plans and God laughs" and "you can't judge a book by it's cover". I can't even attribute who I have turned out to be to a loving adpted home as much as just having a home that allowed me to be safe long enough to catch my breath. Every child needs the chance to become who they were ment to be. I tell my son all the time that God brought him into the world through one mom, but that he was created for me. I believe that. And I don't think it is by chance that the one thing that I desired most (mother like relationships) led me to a farmgirl connection with women that do that the best.I believe that it is the ability of women to nuture that can change the world, even if it is one child at a time. Dalyn.. You are a hero!

You are beautiful Rene'. I spent time in foster care myself, as did my husband, who was adopted.
Thanks for sharing your beautful story. God's story as much as your own. I'm going to share that one with my husband.
I'm sorry about your biological mother. That's a sad tale for any woman. I guess baby girls getting out of that life is vital. I was planning only on fostering baby boys. You can go to my blog today and get a bit of my story too. *U*

I am so glad to see these posts. My husband and I have fostered children in the past, but due to age and illness are no longer able to do so. There is such a great need for kids who have no homes that I am so glad to see folks who take an interest. We have fostered a variety of children anywhere form six week old twins to 16 year old high schoolers. They all hold a special place in my heart and I pray for them and all the homeless kids in this world. God bless you and give you strength and love to share with these special children.

Hi! I am so glad that I ran accross this post.
My husband and I were foster parents for over 10 years...all infants. Several times we had the joy of taking a newborn straight from the hospital. One of them was a little blond boy who is now our adopted son. He is 9 years old...diagnoses Aspergers/Autistic at about 7 years old. He is fearless, active and very happy. We called him happy-hyper. He is the light of my life! I was 50 years old when we got him.
We had about 35 babies total over the years...what a wonderful life. Now I live alone and sometimes really miss those times.
Thanks for the topic!

About 7 years ago my husband and I started the foster care classes but he backed out. I really wanted to do it and still do. Maybe he'll change his mind and want to do it again.

There was an older couple in our church that would only take infants and they were in their late 70's. All the babies were born to drug addicts and alcoholics, too. There needs to be more people like them. I am so glad ya'll are doing this.

Thanks Kris. We are only going to take infants too. That's the plan anyway.
Guess what? My husband backed out a couple times too. I have waited at least 8 years- even though I always wanted to do this, even as a kid.
Pray and wait. My husband held out another year before finally saying "okay" and now he is excited about it!
*U*
I din't badger him. I think that was the ticket. I knew it wouldn't work if only one of us were really wanting to do it. Unity!

I'm sorry I missed this topic earlier! We too are a liscensed foster to adopt home but guess what- we are doing a straight adoption of two sisters ages 13 and 6! They've been living with us for just over a month and that's one month down and 5 to go before we can seek finalization from the judge.

we are still waiting for them to finish their part...and one of my friends has two drug babies- one is 6 weeks preemie besides, so I will likely just do respite for her at first.

You are an amazing woman. Someday I woul like to do fostering but we will have to see how my husband feels about it. Somethings he surprises me when he says that he likes the idea and somethings that I want to do he doesn't.

I have been a foster/adopt Mom for close to 10 years...we have now adopted 8 and hope the baby now 3 mos (sib to one we adopted) will be staying. I originally wanted to do this to keep the child safe, in hopes parents were able to get it together. I am happy to have the children, dealing with court outcomes and some state workers can be disappointing. But just looking at these tender children, when they begin to smile, want hugs, sleep under the covers...
I really don't want to quit..but with some new policies in our state, I am not sure after this adoption we will continue. The baby we have now is only the 2nd newborn and both were drug babies. The rest are FASD with some challenges.
Yes Farm Girls this is a wonderful "job" we have so much to offer.

Wow...I had no idea there were this many Farmgirl sisters who are foster or adoptive parents. This is GREAT news for me, as my husband and I had our final home study two weeks ago and are just waiting for our social worker to write her report before we, too, can adopt children! We are both first-time parents and have no idea what to expect.
We are hoping to adopt a sibling group (2-3 children) and ages 0 - 10 years, as the need in Michigan is for parents of older children (here infants are in high demand and the waiting list is something like 18 months, and waiting for babies not even conceived yet while so many other children are waiting in foster care weighed heavy on our consciences).
We should start an online support group!

I was so happy to have come across this...made my night actually! My four sisters, brother and I could have ended up in foster care after my parents died in a plane crash.....but my grandparents took us in. I have always wondered what would have happened to us if we would have been in foster care. It warms my heart to no end knowing there are dear, sweet people like you all who have posted about this taking small children in to give them a better life. I love you all for it! Dayln.....I am soooo proud of you! I also want to thank you for your wonderful goats soap I use every day. Your special!

God Bless You!

Just wanted to share my news about the 3 month old...his parents have asked us to adopt him! It was an unexpected shock. I was nauseous all day, so excited tho! We will have more of an open type, I have good relationship with them. They will sign the papers in a few weeks and we will finalize the end of June.
I am overwhelmed in my thoughts....
