Laura,
Best wishes to you and hope everything continues to go well for you and the wee little one. I would imagine the emotions are a little roller coaster-like right now. Give him an extra squeeze from me.

Hi girls,
I just read your post, and I have to say that I commend all of you who have done fostering and/or adoption. I have not done foster care or adoption yet, but for 10 years I have been on the other side of the fence, completing all of the peperwork that an adoption entails. Whenever someone comes up to me and says "I have another adoption for you", I am filled with joy at the sound of those words. I can't tell you the joy that I feel when I hear that a child has found their "forever home". Take pride in yourselves; you have become someone's mommy, daddy, auntie, uncle, sister, brother, grandma, grandpa, cousins, even a godparent. You are admirable!!

Good Luck to all of you! I am in the boat with some of the other ladies that have posted here...my husband has some type of strange aversion to "raising other peoples kids" as he puts it. I think sometimes it's harder for men to think with their hearts. So maybe someday, I'll get to do it, but for now he's happy just having his "own" kids. I wish you all the best of luck in getting your foster kids, adopting them, whatever road you are on and know that there is a special place in heaven for you hard working mothers of "other peoples kids". :-) Sorry, I just had to throw that in again. I just think it's so funny.

Hello, just found this thread. Some great stories here. Blessings to all of you who have had the opportunity to foster and adopt. For the ones with the husbands who want nothing to do with it, keep praying. My husband wasn't open at the beginning. I started researching, finding books & orientations. I'd ask him if he'd mind coming to an orientation with me "just to learn". I'd go on Amazon & find adoption books- stories and reference books. I'd read a book & if it was encouraging, I'd ask him to read it too. It's taken 8 years and the (almost final) adoption of our own nephew that's helped him to be open to it now. In fact, I caught him looking at photo listings on his own the other night. He's almost giddy about it. I have a pic on my cell phone of two little boys up for adoption- ages 1 & 5. The 5 year old looks like him when he was a kid. He's always telling me to show people the pic. He wants these kids. We'll see what God wants....

So many beautiful stories shared here. Great thread! We did fostering for 5 years & added two boys to our family through this. I still am in contact with a little girl that we cared for and am thankful that the mom has allowed this. The kids we cared for never leave your heart. Best wishes for you on this journey full of so many emotions.

My dearest friend from college flew in this past weekend and I got to finally meet her precious 6-month-old daughter! She is adopted but it is amazing how similar her personality is to her mother's already at 6 months! She even has the same odd habit of running her fingers through her hair like her mama, at 6 months! It was so meant to be. Best wishes to all of you in the process or thinking of adopting.

Lyn, that is so cool!
We finally got a baby boy. 2 months old and he is a darling baby! We all love and adore him, which may be hard if they are ever able to find a relative to place him with, as they are determined and court-ordered to do...we will love him while we have him!

Dalyn, that's the hard part, knowing that they may go back sometime. We have to remember with each child that's the ultimate goal. Unless, you purposely choose to foster/adopt kids who are already available for adoption, then it's just a matter of finding the right match.
Meg, that is amazing! We have friends with a similar story. They adopted a newborn boy from a different state. 8 years later, he actually looks like Dad & has the same interests.

Hey Dalyn,
Just revisited this thread. What's the good news? Do you still have the 2 month old (well 3 months old by now I imagine) that was placed with you? Anymore placements since your last post? We're still waiting to hear of our license opening. The foster case worker told me the other day that she has room for 5 more kids on her workload. I told her to check into our license & keep us in mind for any kids that fit our criteria. We're working with a very small agency, just one case worker. We want to stay in the forefront for placements.
