Here is a really simple recipe:

Easy Lip Balm

1 oz. beeswax
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon essential oil -- peppermint, spearmint, or lemon

Melt wax and oil together over very low heat. Stir in essential oil and pour into small tins, lip balm tubes, or any other suitable, lidded containers. Allow to cool.

This recipe will fill about 25 – .15 oz. lip balm tubes.

Hi Sherry,

I have the book "The Soapmaker's Companion" so here's the recipe from page 55:

Native Blend Lip Balm

30 grams (1 ounce) hydrogenated 92F coconut oil**
80 grams (2.8 ounces) castor oil
60 grams (2.1 ounces) jojoba oil
20 grams (0.7 ounce)beeswax
30 grams (1 ounce) wheat germ oil
40 grams (1.4 ounces) vegetable glycerin
1 teaspoon (5 mL) pure essential oil

**You should slightly increase the amount of beeswax if using 76F coconut oil.

In a small heavy-duty saucepan over low heat, combine all of the ingredients except for the pure essential oil and heat just until the beeswax melts. Remove from heat and add the pure essential oil. Pour into lip balm jars, restirring the mixture after pouring a few jars to be sure that the essential oil and the vegetable glycerin are in solution. (These two ingredients are water-soluble and do not perfectly blend with the oils.)

lori thanks so much. you saved me. i made it and it turned out great. i do add more beeswax than it calls for. i like a firm stick. i also put my extra in the freezer. it keeps them fresh till i need them.i dont add the glycerine since i find the tubes do not hold up for resale like they do without it.thanks again sherrye
