I'm doing a little dreaming about my backyard this morning, thinking about what I'd like to do to make it special and I'm wondering if anyone has one of the outdoor bathtubs pictured by MaryJane. How'd you set yours up? Is it an old clawfoot tub or something else? I'd love to hear about it.

Don't have a outdoor tub, but do have an outdoor shower, its about 15 ft from the back door, 3 sides lattice type panels with climbing roses (keep trimed so there isn't any acidental pierceing, lol), it has a solar water bag, like you use for camping. There have been many times like when pulling a calf or lamb or kid, or when you are dealing with a broken irrigation pipe, you really need to rinse off BEFORE you go in the house and use the indoor shower. Dropping you clothes , rinseing off and trotting to the back door is no big deal, except when someone locks the backdoor, and you see a neighbors truck coming down your drive (happened to my hubby), he thought what the hay, its only Donny and trotted around to the front door, just as "Cindy", Donnys wife is walking up to the front door, as I was coming out the front door, I really didn't know someone could turn that red, and not be really, really sunburned, lol. Needless to say, there was always a big towel hanging there from then on.

Rene, do you put any screening around it or just go for it as is?

I do put screening around it. But in the fall I planted climbing lilac bushes and have some lattice to make walls that the bushes can climb. I also pulled up the grass under the tub and put down some various ground cover that makes it look like there is a grassy tile. I will post some pictures this spring.

I really want an outdoor tub, but have been thinking about putting up an outdoor shower like Teresa's instead. I could save money by using a solar shower. I'd like to put it an garden type setting, this may take some schemeing on my part. Hmmmmm.......

I have an outdoor tub as well, but don't use it as often as I'd like because I have to haul the water from the house. Luckily a tree dropped a limb which screens the tub beautifully from the street!

I have an outdoor shower.. and it is awesome. A few years ago I had an idea to tap into the hot and cold water that runs to the kids bathroom. The tub is against the wall where I wanted the shower outside so I got lucky there. I drilled through the wall and had a plumber run the pipes through the block wall. I built a surround and put in faucets made of regular copper pipe and yard valves. It worked like a champ and I am going to add a tub this year! Cant wait to use that!

Hi all - I'm new to this farmgirl stuff - but when I saw the outdoor bathtub in the last edition I HAD to have one. So I looked endlessly on craigslist & dh went & picked up a $100. cast iron tub this morning. We'll be taking it out to our tiny cabin in N. Central Washington, adding water from our creek & hopefully soaking in glory. I'm so excited. my main concern now is how we'll heat the water - currenly I only have a propane camp stove that takes canisters of propane. Any suggestions?

best.

for propane unit that only takes the disposable little tanks they make an adapter and hose that you can hook to a large tank. I got one recently for a new tent heater I bought. I got it at walmart for about 20 for the hose and the adapter was I think 7 or 8. Good luck! sound great! what an adventure huh!!? :)

Gosh, I used my tub Sunday, and it was so nice! If you have it, use it, because you forget how great it is till you're out there!
