My sewing machine is in the shop, so my husband replaced the belt on my 1906 Singer Treadle machine and I am actually using it. It's slow going. There is definitely a learning curve. You need rhythm and honey I ain't got any, but for the next two to three weeks maybe I'll find it!

That is a pretty machine. And it looks so simple. But I had one and I could never get it to work for me. I don't think I had the knack to get the treadle going and to actually sew something. But my friend could sit down and get it going right away. So I finally gave it away. It made me too upset to look at it knowing I couldn't use it. I might could now though.
I hope you get yours going. Because sewing all those cute little pin cushions backwards might take a LONG time! So here's wishing you lots of luck.

I have 2 treadle machines and can't get any of them to work I have been looking for a manual Singer is all that I can find. I have a New Home it doesn't have a tension ring on the front I have no idea how to thread the thing or the shuttle bobbin. I have been trying to fill a bobbin but it just keeps going back and forth winding one way and unwinding the other. I think it has something to do with the tension on the belt?

I'd love to have a New Home treadle, I have a 12-year-old New Home that I got on clearance as they were changing the name to Janome and since then I've collected vintage New Home stuff. You might want to look on this site, http://www.ismacs.net/newhome/home.html They might have a manual for your machines. And the threading was the hardest part. It took me about an hour to figure it out. It works so nicely now though. The stitches are just perfect. I can't see me using it full time, but it's kind of like when the lights go out and you have to use candles, it's fun for now!

Lisa I have a New Home Ruby Treadle and New Home 4000 computerized and a New Home basic. I like them all I was given the treadle and the basic but have them all set up to sew.
I also have a Singer Treadle/hand crank and Singer made in England and a Featherweight Singer that was my Moms.
A Free Westing house heavy duty and 2 Babylock Sergers.
Why I just don't know.

What a beautiful treadle machine you have, Lisa! Enjoy sewing on it...I've always wanted one, but am not sure about the rhythm thing either! LOL!

the singer treadle is what my grandma first taught me to sew on....I still have it, bummed up cabinet and all....it works beautifully, and once you get the hang of the back and forth motion of the peddle, the methodical movement is zen like and very relaxing......enjoy!

I have on two that I put a new janome treadle machine into the case. it works fine abut I am having a tough time getting the rhythm thing going too!!!

| I have the new Janome treadle machine, fits in my antique cabinet, sews like a charm! has 10 stitches, plus reverse, like it better than all my electric ones and use it more...plus it was only$200 with free shipping!! |

That is the kind of machine I learned on!! My Mother has one that I believe was her mothers. Actually I really liked it and someday that is going to be mine

My in-laws gave me a treadle but I have yet to use it. It needs a lot of work and I can't find any information on it. It's a Favorite model but from what I've researched, it could be a Singer or New Home machine under a different name.
One day, I'll figure out how to use it. But first I need dear young hubby to clean 'er up.
