I am so excited about this product! I was just annoyed about having to put those nasty Frontline type treatments on my pets this year; especially after hearing about some people's pets who had reactions to them and died. But I couldn't deal with the fleas in my house and yard, so I did it anyway.
But a few weeks ago I found this product at my feed store where I buy my horse feed and I bought it to try: It's called "Pet Pride NO FLEA food and water supplement" and it is by Ashley's Green Products. I have no idea what is in it, but it smells like vinegar and garlic. You put one Tbsp. in 1 qt. of their drinking water. After two weeks my pets have NO FLEAS. My new kitten had some fleas, and was scratching in his ears; NO MORE. I got a 16 ox bottle of the stuff for $10.00 and it should last a while for us. Of course, I have no idea how well it will work in the hot summer months when fleas tend to be at their worst. My cats didn't like it at first but after about a day or two they got over it and now drink it fine. I googled it: <http://www.ashleysgreenproducts.net> and they have quite a few cleaning and other products. Ask your feed store to carry it and give it a try!

We do pretty much the same thing by putting apple cider vinegar in the drinking water and spritz them with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. We also use diatomatious (sp) earth to dust them down with. We live in a very high flea and tick area and we don't have a problem at all even with 5 dogs.

Interesting info and good to know. We use Canine Advantage or at least something similar and it's so hard to remember to NOT pet them for 24 hours. If we can't pet them because of the stuff, I wonder how the pets stand it???

I have discovered in the last year or so that using some of the topical products on my dogs causes them to have a severe (and very painful looking) skin reaction. So I've been trying lots of things. For the outside dogs I ended up using diluted permethryne which seemed to work well, but I'd prefer to use something without chemicals.
I've used the vinegar on the horses before to keep mosquitos away, but I hadn't thought of putting it in the dog water. Going to have to try that. We have 7 dogs. I'm hoping the addition of chickens will help, but they can't be everywhere all the time.
