I read an article about making your own oilcloth. Neat idea since you can't buy it anymore. I can't find the article. I have all of the MaryJanes Farm magazines, except the first one. I can not find it, but have had funn looking throug all of them. Does anyone remeber this and can you tell me which magazine it is in. Thank you Farmdreamer |

I'd love to see a picture when you've made it. I think I may make one in the spring.

Thanks Tanya, you are a life saver. It's my mother-in-law who is going to make one. I'm not really sure I can figure out how to send a picture. I'm not very computer smart. I can't tell you how wonderful you are to look this up and send my the info. Thanks to you we'll be making oilcloth come spring in Idaho. Thanks so very much. |

oil cloth is a waterproof, stain proof fabric usually used for a table cloth, though not so much anymore. I don't know why though. I think they sell some at the Vermont Country Store website if you want to see what I mean. I'm sure you've seen them before..

Stores around here sell oil cloth, and I have made my own, as well as all my own floor cloths. Growing up my Dad attached some oil cloth to a window shade roller for behind the cook stove, and made a cornice shelf for it where my Mom kept all her Toby jugs above. She would pull down the oil cloth shade when she cooked so it caught all the grease from the cooking, which was easier to clean than the wall. Then when done it rolled up and out of sight.

An oil cloth window shade. That is a great idea! I'm going to have to do that for my kitchen. A nice bright cherry pattern would be so cute in my kitchen!
I am so excited now.

You can get it on ebay, also. I just saw it featured on the Farm Chicks blog and I she said she buys hers from ebay. You can see the direct post here:

I'm going to have to check out making your own, though. What a great idea! Then you can have exactly the pattern you want. |
