Old Fashion Rock Candy, this involve sugar water being boiled and string was held into the mixture (wrapped around a pencil or such.. then you have the crystals looking things on the string.

Also the recipe for molasses / taffy pull?
I remember these way back when I was at a Girl Scout Camp. We would pull and pull with a partner... it was dark color like dark molasses.

Anyone have these? I would love to try them again ... been in a nostalgia mood lately.

Thanks!

i have made the old fashioned candy. I got my flavorings from the pharmacist if you can believe that. They contain a lot of alcohol so they sell them in the pharmacy. Who'd a thunk it?

I remember making taffy in Girl Scouts too - but I don't think ours had molasses in it. I gotta try the rock candy as an experiment; my nine year old would love it.

Karrieann I remember the molasses taffy from girls scouts. My mom was a leader I think that she used her better Homes and Gardens cookbook 1962- which I happen to have. The taffy calls for 2 cups sugar, 1 cup light molasses, 1/3 cup water. 2 teas vinegar, 2 tbls butter, and 1/2 teas soda. Mix sugar, molasses, and water bring to a boil. Then add vinegar, cook to light-crack stage. Remove from heat add butter and sifted soda - mix. Then turn out (don't scrap) on a buttered platter. Pull taffy with fingers, can use cornstrach to keep fingers from getting to sticky. Snip with buttered scissors. Good Luck, Barbara

Wish they would come up with low-carb candy recipes so I could have some. Carbs, not sugar by itself, are the enemy of the diabetic. And Karrieann, Toccoa is right next to where I am moving in North Georgia - Blairsville, which is in the Toccoa Falls area. Nice to find more Farmgirls in my future.

A Farmgirl Sister headed for my mountain home and farm in 2010.
