I know this is the one that can lead to meningitis and pneumonia in little kids, but am having hard time finding out about risks for adults.
Does anyone know anything about it?
I'm worried because my youngest grandson was here yesterday and he's too young to have had all his boosters.

Call your doc. Sounds like nothing you want to fool around with.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone!
After a day of research and phone calls, I have found out that:
1. It is the same as the HIb virus that babies and toddlers are vaccinated against, so I think my grandsons should be fine.
2. It is the same virus that caused my mom to have a serious heart infection 5 years ago. She and my dad are coming up here on Friday so I had to do something quick.
3. It can lead to pneumonia, cellulitis, epiglottitis, and other serious illnesses in adults, and is more prevalent than it was a few years ago.
4. Hubby is not that sick, he is still getting up at 1:00 am to go to work at UPS for 8 hour days.
5. Hubby is contagious.....hubby is not contagious> rolls eyes> this came from the same doctor's office. They said he didn't need to take the anitibiotic unless he really felt sick.
6. Abuse of anitibiotics can be a cause of this bacteria/virus. Yes, I know that last sentence does not make sense, it's either a bacteria OR a virus right? (And, hubby is a big abuser of antibiotics, stopping them when he shouldn't, taking them unnecessarily.

After much thought and worry though, I made him go get his prescription filled, and he is now taking it. I will bully him to take all of them.
He did go to the dr. on Friday for a sore throat, doc didn't see anything but did a throat culture, and they called this morning to say it wasn't strep, but they did find Hib.
Sigh... am hoping it stays with him, and doesn't spread.

Amen nothing like the the UPS delivering germs too. Hope he gets better as fast as he can. I too have one that never seems to do what the Docs say to do.

Brenda,
Count on my family to be praying for you all here. We wives have to be the bullies sometimes to take care of our families, but goodness if you don't know if its contagious, you don't want him spreading it around in case he can.
I am praying for you both!
big hugs & prayers,
Jessie
