I spent a really fun day in the garden yesterday .. 'decorating'. Dressed my 'lady' scarecrow in one of my skirts and shirts and straw hat .. spraypainted some clay pots with 'blackboard chalk' spray .. and will write on them whatever seeds i plant in there so i won't get all confuzzeled! Went around kissing the ground wherever i saw 'sweet annie' peeking it's head through the earth! AND .. my 'naked ladies' (i prefer to call them 'ballerinas' .. cuz' that's what they remind me of .. their 'greenery' is gettin tall .. i expect the little dancers to appear anyday now.
washed the 'hammock' covers for springtime snoozing .. AND .. my most favorite thing i did in the garden was to hang a line of "Prayer Flags" for my honey hunk's Mt. Everest trip .. painted a little sign and hung it beside the flags that says:
"PRAYER FLAGS: Blessings blowing in the Wind .. to guide where your journey leads you. God bless and watch over you and bring you safely home to me."
And today .. i bought a tomato plant .. some strawberry plants .. CILANTRO and ROSEMARY (only two herbs i could find so far!) and planted them in pots so i can bring them in at night in case we get another 'freeze'. Tomorrow, i am going to give our outdoor 'chairs' a new coat of paint.
I'm loving this springtime!!! xo
What favorite flowers do you see peeking through the earth in your garden?

Rusty, the weather here isn't screaming Spring either. Just rain, rain and more rain. I think soon we'll all just float out into the ocean. The Sun just peeks out for an hour and clouds start rollin' in again. So I understand.

Oh thank goodness! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! i thought the only cloud in the sky was right over MY house! Went searchin' and found a beautiful picture of spring tulips all in bloom to put as wallpaper on this 'ol computer. Atleast that helps a bit. Can't smell them....but they look darn pretty anyways. thanks girls. Big warm WET hug for ya'll

Paula,
It's still cold & cloudy here too. Tulips are coming up, but that's about it.
Frannie,
So sweet of you to do the Prayer Flags. What an adventure your dh will have. Has he done this type of trip before? Sounds like it.

I saw the pretties Naked Ladies today on the way home from picking my daughter up at school. They were a beautiful burgandy purple! Gorgeous!!! (I'd forgotten about them until I saw them, my grandma had them come up every year as far back as I can remember!)
The end will justify the pain it took to get us here. |

Shirley~~Naked Ladies are lillies that first produce green leaves in the spring (looks sort of like daffodil greens) The greens die back a little and then a single stalk shoots up .They get approx a couple feet tall~~ and the lily flower(s) is usually soft pink. Jan |

Anybody know the true horticultural name? I am NOT going into a store and tell them "I am looking for Naked Ladies"!
Don't wanna go to jail for a pretty new flower variety! |

The plant that I am familiar with called Naked ladies is hardy amaryllis (botanical name Lycoris squamigera). These are marginally hardy in zone 5; hardy in zone 6-10. Also called resurrection lilies -- the foliage comes up; dies back; the blooms appear in late summer-early fall. Amaryllis belladonna is also called Naked Ladies, but it is less hardy. Also blooms in summer.
So . . . there must be another flower that is now blooming called Naked Ladies!
