I keep hearing from all who have a spot for crafts: I'm sorry it's so messy. Good grief girls, how can you create if you're not free to be "messy". What do you think?

I'm always reminded of this phrase.."people come to visit you,... not your house, not your stuff, not your clutter..you" Of course I do like to have my home decently cleaned and as free of a mess as I can when I expect company over, but there's no sense in stressing over stuff though. Enjoy yourself, enjoy your clutter, enjoy your creative space. And heck if its a bother to someone ask them to help you clean it up, or join in the fun.:0)2 people making a mess is better than one.:0)

My house is clean, but my craft room is a mess. I don't mind I KNOW where to find my things.
I never show it so somebody, lol. Only to friends if they happen to be there when I need something from that room. ( I DO apologize for it though, double standards, I know)
Someone recently told me:
"If a craftroom is clean and tidy you never do any crafting there" In other words, craftrooms are supposed to be messy becvause you are creating something wonderful :)

Right now my bedroom is also my craft room. Grrrrr Anyone who sees my crafting space while I'm in the midst of a project sees a mess, but it's NOT! Everything is laid out and in it's place. I know exactly where to find everything I need. But it never fails my guy or my youngest will come in and scooch everything off the bed so they can sprawl across to watch tv. Ummmm HELLO! I'm working here and there are two other tv's in the house. I try not to let it aggravate me cause I know they aren't doing it to intentionally interupt me, but because they love me and want to be near me. I just keep thinking that someday I will have my own room for crafting.

Enjoy your crafty spaces ladies. They help keep us sane.

I don't really APOLOGIZE for my creative room . . . I will make comments about the reason it looks like it does. But that's only for people who have never seen it or have never seen the beautiful things that come out of there. I am SO-O-O-O grateful for "my room"!!!! I used to have to store supplies under the bed, in closets, etc. And work on the kitchen counter and then move it before ready. So, when I got an ENTIRE room for that I was . . and am . . in heaven!!!
It used to be a bedroom, a lovely one . . .but we hardly had anyone use it so I sold the bed, bought storage shelves, moved in a beautiful walnut executive desk that my husband refinished . . .so big that no one really wanted it. PERFECT for my projects!!!!! I use paper to protect the top, have drawers for storage, LOTS of work surface!!!
It DOES look like a explosion took place in there . . . VERY BUSY with Christmas projects!!!

I don't apologize but my craft room is also my bedroom and when it leaks out into the other rooms I know its time for a cleanup! It never lasts long though! I know when we build our house I will finally have my own room for this and then I can just shut the door!

My husband helped me turn our guest room into my "woman cave". We gave away to bed, put my sewing machine in front of the big window so I can look out at the pond when I'm sewing, got a couple of 6' folding tables for me to work on and it looks like a tornado hit it and I love it. I even have a chair for my husband so he can talk to me while I'm crafting. And the best part... all I have to do is shut the door when I'm done playing for the day and not worry about it being messy nobody but me and him sees it.

Begin each morning with a song in your heart.

I think I am "over" saying I am sorry for my crafting room being a mess this time of the year... I think that folks should apologize only if their creative space is clean... may be an indicator that they aren't in there enough.. tee-hee!

Here's what Santa did.

Twas the night before Christmas, I'm glued to the tree.
I'm wondering what Santa brought just for me.
Could it be cardstock or inkpads or lace?
Or some stamps, I said, with a smile on my face.
And that's when I heard him......
"Hi Santa, " I said
He replied, "You know....good girls should be in their beds".
"I know I should Santa,and now I've been caught.
But I was just so excited to see what you brought."
"Well, let's take a look in this room where you work".
He shook his head quickly, and left with a jerk.
I heard him exclaim as he put it in gear.
"You've got enough crap,
I'll see you next year!"

Funny!!

Oh farmgirls, sounds to me like we have many wonderful artists out there who have very creative ways of NOT apologizing for your space. You go girls! Jean Ray Laury from California, wrote a book called "The creative woman's Getting-it-all-together at home handbook.ISBN# 0-9614804-0-8 published in 1985. She interviewed her craftswomen friends and among other things lists how they "justified" their craft space. One woman started selling her work and her husband began to give new respect to "her stuff". Happy cafting and Happy Holidays. Bonnie

Yeah Bonnie my husband thought I was silly for making ski caps for the kids for Christmas this year ("You can get them at Walmart for $2!") until this morning when we got our first true cold snap here in East Texas and he couldn't find his cap and his cleanly shaven head was chilled and...I whipped him up a nice warm fleece cap (black of course) in about 10 minutes. He kinda likes those caps now.

Its a good thing my room has a door, it is always messy. Its weird cause I have to clean it all up before the next project, but during the process, Oi!

For tomorrow and its needs I do not pray, but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord just for today.

My room is actually is my bedroom - for now at least. When I'm sewing or creating - "creative mode" as I call it, also known as messy - my whole bedroom is a wreck. Right now that's what it looks like as I'm finishing up some sewing projects. Then I also have the kitchen and dining room table when I'm making soap and lotion bars. The dining room table is full most of the time!!!

When I was learning to sew and all other crafting from my mother and grandma we always used the kitchen table. So when I had my own home I used the kitchen table, for cutting my patterns out and setting up my sewing maching. Would have to move everything in the floor to have meals. I could not wait until I could have my own craft room. But now I am teaching my DD to sew and my DGD, whose is 3, is learning also. So what do we do -- set everything up on the kitchen table. It just feels right. We move everything to the floor have our meals, then put everything back on the table, and go back to sewing. Making aprons now. So I have a nice craft room, but all kinds of love and memories at the kitchen table.
