Hi farmgirll sisters,
I have considered myself a modern open-minded person for a long time...BUT even I am shocked at the AMA awards. And also more detailed autopsies on regular tv. What passes for entertainment is disgusting and sickening. It's time for me to turn my tv off and be very careful for my sweet eyes and mind. TV entertainment is becoming perverted and more sickening than ever. It's what used to be called porn and horror. OMG

Linda, I was flipping channels last night waiting for Three Rivers to come on. I caught the first few seconds of Adam Lambert (on the AMA) til he stuck some guys face in his crotch. I think I dropped the remote and couldn't find it fast enuf to change the channel again. Oh my goodness, I am still shocked. He is awful. And scary. Even on AI he was scary. I know what you mean, though. TV is hardly worth watching anymore. I don't understand why they think that's entertainment.

I didn't watch all of the AMA awards...but the dancing with the entertainment was all much TOO graphic...too much for me. I fell asleep after Rhiana... The first thing that bothered me was the dancing and pelvic thrusting that the dancers and Shakaria did.

I just saw pics on AOL of Adam Lamberts act.

In this topic I also meant the autopsy and dead body details that they show on TV now, I used to like Grey's Anatomy until there was too much blood and gore..

I have no problem with gay people, never have, but I saw the video of Lambert this morn on the computer, and he was way outa line, and so was the TV network who allowed this to be aired in a time zone where children could be watching. They also could have at least gave some kind of warning, before hand, so people could deciede if that wanted to see his act. I am sure the AMA's will get ALOT of flack for that, and hopefuly there will be at least an apoligy.

Lisa and Linda: Yes to the Hallmark Channel's Christmas reruns. I don't watch much TV, but I do enjoy the Christmas shows. I would much rather work on piano music all day, or re-read and re-read and re-read "The Egg and I", and "Onions in the Stew". LOL

We gave up cable a while back and I don't miss it at all. I watch a couple of shows on the internet (CBS and hulu), and Jane and the Dragon on Qubo, but other than that the tv is mostly for movies. I buy if they are cheap enough and rent from redbox if they have something I like. But the gore on tv is awful and I don't enjoy all the graphic details on crime shows. I listen to music on the radio most days. I can take care of stuff around the house and enjoy the music. Also, if you watch tv on the internet, the commercials are very, very short. One hour shows on regular tv are like 40 minutes long on the internet.

Eww yea!
i saw that footage this evening when I jumped back on the computer.

So sad state of affairs these days

Glad to know I'm not the only "prude" in the bunch

And award shows like that are so pathetically boring anyway.

Maybe that's why the artists have to amp it up a little

will be interesting to see where he is a few years from now.

My son wasn't here at the time but I wonder what I would have said if he asked me about it. I can't imagine what goes on in the minds of young children growing up now. He is only 9 years old.

My DH who was sleeping told me he was listening to it so I couldn't turn the tv to another channel until my 3 yr.old grandson said, are they naked, I looked up and this one dance/singer part looked like they were naked. I liked the girls voice but that was it. I flipped the channel until my grandson fell asleep then I turned it back on 5 minutes before the news and I saw Adam's act, it was awful. To much gross, not enough good singing. I did like Kelly Clarkson but even her outfit was to short. I thought music was about the music not who could out shame the other.
My nephew is gay and married to his partner whom I just love, but I would not be happy if they acted that way.
The new Susan Boyle C.D. came out today. I picked it up and it is a fantastic C.D. If you don't already own it I highly recommend it.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

I am glad I don't watch too much TV. Even tonight when husband and I were flipping channels I dived for the controller to flip past one show because I could see there was about to be massive amounts of violence- at 7:30 in the evening! I don't want my daughter going to bed after watching people get blown up! That stuff used to be on R rated films! Yes I wish that the TV rating departments would rein some of this in!

My husband and I got so tired of trying to find something decent to watch besides the food channel, so we dropped cable some time ago. We now have netflix. And you can choose an array of old movies and tv shows to watch instantly on your tv or computer. This has been great for us. You also still can have movies sent to your home that are not on instant play. I just watched an old movie with Lucille Ball, called Stone Pillow. About a street lady, and how things turn out for her. There are great documentaries on netflix too, and you can weed out the icky stuff and keep it off your tv. Lets face it, we all like to watch some television, but when disagreeable stuff raids our homes it is very unnerving. Protect your mind.

It gets worse all the time doesn't it? I gave up on network tv years ago. Went to cable for a while and satelite tv for a few years, but finally just don't do any of it. I don't even consider myself stodgy but I don't consider any of that stuff entertainment at all. Give me a good book or a Mary Jane magazine and my knitting needles. Our poor grandchildren are inundated with this cruddy stuff on tv. I don't think there is any innocense left any more!!! Now I will step down off my soap box and rustle up some breakfast!!

I have absolutely no problem with homosexuality. I do have issue with lude/crass behavior for shock value (shock is fun!) whether it's male/male, female/female or male/female. To me, it shows emotional immaturity...and I've been "old" since I was 17, I think. Even my husband, who can be as "manly" as the next, won't watch certain shows like "Three and Half Men" because he calls it "bathroom humor"--the problem is, this show keeps winning entertainment awards, so what does that tell you about the scope of its audience? And, anyone who knows Jus and I knows, for certain, we're rather liberal on all things and sortof march to our own drum. So, for us to be turned off, it's gotta be largely, just "ignorant" in nature.

Even though we have cable, we still watch a lot of PBS. In fact, I got cable so we could get the additional PBS channels!!! And Violet will watch PBS. And the History Channel, and Animal Planet and anything educational that I deem age appropriate. Right now, she's really enjoys Richard Scary's Busy Town, and she and her poppa watch Little House on the Prairie each morning at 8:00 over a bottle :)

I am going to sound horrible!!! I like TV!! Not all of it of course, but I don't watch what I don't like. I kind of think of it the same as the radio, if I don't like the song I change the station. I like all the CSI and the Law and Order ones. NCIS both of them. I like Ghost Whisperer and Medium. Criminal Minds all that stuff. I also like PBS and watch a lot of that. I think as parents, grandparents and for ourselves you have to pick and choose. Any one who is familiar with the AMA or like shows know there is going to be some pretty raunchy parts. That's what a lot of people like. Some of it I like, some I don't. Did I watch them, No. It probably was on the same time one of my other shows was on. It's kind of like watching a show about the slaughter of animals, you know what you are going to see, if you don't like that stuff don't watch it, I don't like it and I don't watch. I love sappy old movies too. I guess I am just trying to say there is no way that everyone is going like or approve of every show. So instead of trying to get censorship for everyone (which I am not big on in most cases) do your own censorship and just don't watch what you know may offend you. It just makes sense to me.

Suddenly, I'm very thankful for farm chores and my Monday night dominoes group. Didn't see it. Glad I didn't. Oh, yuck. I think I'm about to convince dh that playing gin rummy, dominoes or just talking and dreaming will be so much better than what's available on the tube. Well, I will be watching some of the Christmas movies. But none of the rest of it!

I don't think you are horrible at all. Frankly I don't believe in legal censorship. I just noticed on AOL the news about some of it. Sometimes it's just human nature to keep watching to see what will happen next...out of curiousity.
One time I heard some modern song's very graphic nudity descriptions on a radio song in my car..during the daytime! by the time they sang that part it was too late...my son heard it too. On regular radio I was shocked. Then I hear that same "type" of music played by a young driver taking the children to school. Sometimes it is important for the general public to just speak up instead in just complaining to each other. We can make our opinions know to those in charge. I called the school and I asked the supervisors to do something. The supervisors told me that they took care of it. If that is censorship then adults should protect children while keeping the rights of free speech and viewing to adults.

Oh no, Mary Jane, I watch all the crime/law shows, too. I'm all about that. But, if I'm going to watch something that has a an edge to it, it's going to be something worth it intellectually as opposed to the AMA awards!!! I'm in no way for legal censorship.

I basically stopped watching TV five years ago. I couldn't stand what passes for humor on some shows. I recall seeing a show where the "straight" characters were making fun of the gay characters--I was appalled by the crudity of it. But when a gay person brings it on themselves--it's more degrading than liberating. I'm in favor of gay rights but that doesn't mean the right to push their sexuality in our faces. Some of my favorite old-time movie actors were gay but part of their charm was that you never really knew. It's good to leave some things to the imagination.

I'm like some of the other girls. I don't watch TV much at all, but when I do it's Hallmark, ABC Family, TV Land or cooking/travel shows. I can't stand graffic news, or porn movies. And if I want to hear music...well...that's what radios are for! After all, I can't see music. I hear it!My motto has always been, "If little children shouldn't watch it, then I shouldn't watch it!"Period!
