How early is too early for putting up holiday decorations? I usually start the weekend after Thanksgiving. What about you?

Yup! I, as always, am champing at the bit for the holidays. Just about as soon as the turkey is off the table, I'm sneakin' out the Christmas things! I'm making some of my own this year, but I have a lot of treasured ornaments and decor. CAN"T WAIT!!!! =)

That's me with my Halloween stuff. I have it out by mid-September! But I'm also anxious to put the Christmas stuff too this year. I've decided to put up a second tree, in my front yard, with all-natural decorations. Gotta figure out how to string pine cones into garland!

My Halloween stuff goes up the end of september, As soon as those come down the Thanksgiving things go up and all my kids know that the Day after Thanksgiving they are stuck at home until the Christmas things are up. The last couple of years though two of them have to go back to College the day after Thanksgiving because they work in the town they go to College. I miss them during the decorating.

Well I've been thinking about everything I want to do for the past few weeks, but will wait until the day after Thanksgiving to actually decorate! That's the day I'll start listening to Christmas music too! I've always loved my Christmas decorations- many which have been handed down to me, so they stay up until January 6. Kimberly Ann- last year I had a natural tree on our little side porch and I strung pine cones with short pieces of thread. If you make them short enough the birds won't be able to pick them off and possibly swallow them. I found that the thread went around the tops of the cones pretty easily. Post a pic when you have it done!

Brenda, that's a good idea for the pinecones. I'll post a shot when it is all done. I suppose I could also use twine, which would look rustic too.

You know, I think the hard times the world has been going through has brought us all to the point of appreciating the holidays with loved ones and cherished treasures soo much more! Let's all post pics of our holiday houses =)
I'm already going through all of my stash of Christmas books and making baking lists and marking cute ideas...I just LOVE Christmas and all of the wonder that it is.
BTW, Great idea for a bird's Christmas tree Alee, I have a nice ponderosa that would work really well =)

The very next day after Thanksgiving. However, this year, I just might get the tree out and ready to decorate. We are cutting wood on Friday, and it would be nice to come home and decorate the tree in the evening. Oh how I love this time of year, Happy Decorating all you creative farmgirls, Sheri

It has always been Thanksgiving weekend around here. To me the holiday season starts on Thanksgiving and goes right through until New Years. I have pared down alot of what I out out. The last few years I just put out my 2 villages and the tree. I really enjoy it. Not so much fussing and work. Plus I find I really enjoy the holidays more without stressing out!!

We don't have Thanksgiving here, but nmom and I always started after December 5(our Saint Nicholas eve). I still do that, after December 5 I will start with the decorations and some time later my tree will go up.

For us it's usually when we get the time and I'm off work.
Looks like it will either be the first week in December or around the 14th.
Tree comes down after New Year's...again, when i;m off work. Could be the next day, could be the next week. |
