Our cottage is much too small to entertain more than 5 folks, and our families and friends combined make way more than 5, so I'm trying to come up with a solution for Violet's first birthday party in FEBRUARY! So, not much to do outside at that time, and I don't want to put a party on either of my mil's or my mom (who wants to force clean???) and the shelter house at our wonderful nature preserve that I was counting on (because they told me to call 2nd week of November for booking--um, that's this week--has been booked since it's October )is obviously out.

I was hoping for just a potluck type thing, but WHERE? Any ideas would be mucho appreciated!

A church could be a good idea no matter what the weather.

Check other parks. We had a graduation party at very low cost in one of the city parks in a nearby town. It had to be during the day because that one shelter had no electric hook up, but we didn't have to sign up very far in advance.

Some restaurants have party rooms, but then you have to buy their food and usually guarantee a minimum number of people.

But you can be happy if you've a mind to. All you've gotta do in knuckle down, buckle down and do it, do it, do it!"

Unfortunately, our church is more like a stadium...

How about the pizza store of your choice? It's good for parents/family/etc. and they usually have a back room for parties.

If it's a financial problem to have a pizza party (it would be impossible for us) - I'd go ahead and set it at Grandma's house and do clean-up crew yourself :)

Best,

Robin

Some friends of ours had their daughters first birthday in their indoor horse barn/arena. It actually worked out well! All the kids could run amuck and have fun and it was protected from the weather.
What about your local grange hall? DH and I had our wedding reception at ours! :)
We've held parties at our local pizza place as well, like Robin suggested.
