I just did!

For six months, I have been having a lot of nonspecific health problems, like heart palipitations, headaches, aches and pains, panic attacks, depression, exhaustion, etc. I've been to the doctor who sent me to a number of specialists and put me through a barrage of tests, but EVERYTHING has come back normal.

Then just a few days ago, something occurred to me!

My workplace is just a festering pool of negativity. I literally have to listen to my coworkers complain non-stop for six hours a day. To tell you how bad it gets, I've got something very good happening in my life right now - my husband and I have started the adoption process and are going to adopt a sibling group - and I won't talk about it to my collegues because I don't want to taint it with their negativity.

I think I have been absorbing all this negative energy that I'm bombarded with every day, and I think it has impacted my health in a very negative way. So, I decided to jump! I sat down with my husband to see what we will have to cut in order to make up my salary (cable t.v., no new car to replace our old truck, eating out, and no vacation this year), and leaving my job seemed doable. So, I gave my notice, and my last day is October 23rd!

Good for you Jessie.
I know what a downcast workplace can do to your pour body. I am so happy for you that you were willing to take this very hard step in order to improve your health and your surroundings. I will be praying that you adjust easily and that getting into the habit of cutting back will come to you naturally. After all, sometimes we have to give up the things we could live without to have what it is that we really and truly want.

Hurray, for you, Jessie! I just know you're gonna do wonderful! I am so with you - I got so tired of the negatives in some of my jobs that dh and I gave up a lot just so I could stay home with my kids. Now, I'm the only one in my office (even my bosses have other jobs, so if I see them at all it's just for an hour or less), and I get more work done, I'm happier at my job, and more at peace with myself. Congrats, farm girl!

Jessie...good for you!!! Knowing yourself is the best medicine for yourself and your family. I wish you the best!!!

3.5 years ago, I left the military against the wishes of others. I couldn't take the negativity anymore nor could I stand to leave my brand new baby in daycare. I wanted to move on with college and my life. We lost a HUGE paycheck but we cut back and live VERY simple and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! No looking back for me!!!!

We are about to do it again..very soon..we need to do what we need to do for our sanity!!! You go girl!! YEE HAW!!!

Good for you, Jessie! Once upon a time I had something similar happen to me. I was working at a very negative place and between the pressures from co-workers and superiors and the way the place demanded we treat employees (I was a supervisor) I didn't like the ME working there and I didn't like working there (if that makes sense). Anyway I started getting these hand tremors and it got so bad I was having a hard time even writing my name legibly. I went through a battery of tests to see if I was getting MS or Parkinsons or something. Then I started losing my vision. I would (how scary is this!) be driving down the road and have moments where I would lose my vision completely. I was having a hard time focusing and then suddenly- black out! I stopped driving for a while and went to an eye doctor (all this without insurance and hardly having the money to get by). I went to go see the eye doctor at 9am and had gotten up at 8:30. He said that on a scale of 1-10 where 1 is completely rested and 10 is exhausted to not working my eyes at first thing in the morning were already at a 6 or 7 so by mid day was up to a 9 and by evening I was creeping up on 10! The health doctor told me that I was super stressed out and my body was trying to find ways of releasing it. I was constantly in a fight or flight response and my body wasn't coping well. I also was having panic attacks where my heart would race and my chest would hurt like having a heart attack.

I quit that job and focused on my own house cleaning business and my health issues cleared up within a month. It was amazing!

I hope your health issues clear up just as quick and perhaps you can find a different job that won't be so stressful! *hugs*

Way to go, Jessie!!! I bet you are bursting with excitement! I'm sure it will be tough adjusting to one paycheck, but that must be an enormous burden lifted off your shoulders to not deal with those people anymore. Good for you, and soon it will be good for your health, too.

And a HUGE congratulations on starting the adoption process. I hope everything works out well with that. What a lucky group of kids to get to add you and your husband to their family!

Congrats. on getting away from all that negativity! It really can cause physical symptoms and I think sometimes, the buildings where people work store up all that negative energy. the only solution is to get away or develop the hide of an armadillo. It's important to actively seek out positive environments and it sounds like that's what you're doing. I'm sure you won't regret leaving that workplace.

Yes, I know how you feel. My husband decided when he was laid off to pursue his dreams of music. We are now both in a band doing okay, and it is getting better. At first it was a little unstable but it is starting to work... Thank God! We definitely jumped off without a parachute! But how will you ever be happy playing it safe sometimes... sometimes the best things happen when you try to do that ... it's called FAITH ... ! Besides, we don't want to be old and wondering what would've happened! Yes, I have to wait to have a baby and I can't have a house like I want YET...but everything happens in their own time and ..pays off in the long run! Sometimes sacrificing things really make it worth it then .... and if it was affecting your health...well, all the better.

Way to go Jesse Mae! Congrats on both fronts, dumping the crappy job and starting an instant family. A sib group eh and an instant stay-at-home-mom. Wow! You'll probably need all your energy for that endeavor! Since I'm posting on the 28th...you are probably already in a happy place about NOT having to go to work...so share about the kids! Hugs to you! StarMeadow

**UPDATE**

Well, Friday was my last day at work, so I've officially been a housewife for only six days!

Getting into the housework groove has been a little harder than I thought it would be. Looking at piles of housework that have been neglected for months was really depressing, but I've got most of it taken care of and resisted the urge to lay on the couch and watch t.v. My husband told me to be patient with myself - that it might take a little while to "decompress" and find a routine here at home - and his support has been really instrumental in adapting to my new lifestyle!

Also, I've been chipping away at cleaning out our "spare" bedrooms...for kids! After finding out that it is unlikely (not impossible - just unlikely) that we will have children of our own, we decided to adopt. We've finished our training (we are going through Bethany Christian Services) and are just waiting to be assigned a caseworker to complete our homestudy. So, now I have the additional work of cleaning out our guest room and our spare room, so the new kids will have rooms to sleep in!

this may be a stupid question, but do you possess any sort of marketable talent?

Depending on your gift, you might be able to start your own cottage business. Perhaps for the better.

But I'd be inclined to agree w/ your hubby.

You need to decompress at least for a little while

Best wishes and congrats on the new family when they arrive

it is good that you took this move
I was expecting you really jumping Lol
I have always wanted to do that
I don't know why as I don't like high places.
weird.
when we realized that stress and negative energy are bringing us down we have to take hold
I too have done things to help de- stress
I can't do some things that would cut it all out ; but trying.
Good for you. hugs sheila

Congratulations on both getting rid of the job & starting the adoption process! Where I work right now is very negative & I've been working a lot of xtra days the last 2 weeks-well yesterday I was so exhausted I called in sick-I literally couldn't get moving & had insomnia the night before. But-opening the online music store is showing great promise-with no 2nd income to rely on,I can't leave until I start making a certain amount per month. But like you,I have went thru panic attacks, feeling fearful for no reason, depression, and you helped me figure out it's my job doing it. Thank you & Happy Halloween!

Oh Gees congrats Jessie, on both accounts. Wow a whole family at once. How does that work? I just never heard of it before? being nosey I guess. I can sure empathize when it comes to a bad place to work. congrats on getting rid of that and tell your hubby cudos to him to for understanding so well and willing to downsize the bills and such, not everyman would do that. so he deserves a pat on the back...Hope to see all you michigan farmgirls soon. probably not till spring but still like ot keep up on all of you...
