sometimes when you are checking out at wal-mart .. the checker makes you chuckle....
I think I've mentioned this before, but I bought some leeks ... and the lady checking me out couldn't figure out what they were.. she asked, "Are these some kind of rhubarb or something?" .... And she said, "Sometimes the rarest things will pop up..."
Are leeks really that rare?? And Leeks don't look like rhubarb to me!

lol... I know what veggie family leeks comes from at least, but I would love to have seen your face when she asked that. Isn't hard to keep a straight face sometimes? :D hugs

Well, I don't know..maybe they are related to rhubarb but they aren't reddish! lol I just remember times I have tried to find cheese cloth ... lantern wicks... such things ...and the looks on the people's faces.... LOL.... My husband just gives me a little amused smile and shakes his head.... Only ME could ask for things like that! Or WANT things like that ... I don't care! LOL.

I guess what's common to us is strange to other people. On more than one occassion I have had customers exclaim they have never seen white rhubarb before (swiss chard)!

what amazes me is how much lack of common knowledge and common sense is out there among the people any more..used to be everyone growing up around here were pretty knowledgable about common things..but not so much anymore

The problem is , people think their meals come they way they look on their plates. So many do not home cook their familys food, they buy prepared frozen meals or fast food. I had a lady tell me once that she would only buy her grocerys at a grocery store, if it came from a farm, she would not eat it, LOL.

LOL. Oh my gosh, that is funny, Teresa... LOL... well, actually sad.... In all actuality, I wouldn't get my food from Wal-mart if I could help it...sometimes where I am... it's just easier... It's also hard to convince my husband with some of it... and HE WON'T EAT VEGGIES!! (save for corn and potatoes) ... so it's all me... and it's hard for me to eat what I get sometimes. It's kind of frustrating. I am hoping to start going to the saturday farmer's market downtown soon.

I'll never forget the look this one young girl gave my vegetable. It was some kind of leafy green with bright red veins (maybe chard). She looked at the greens, looked at me, looked back and finally asked, "Is that real or is it plastic?" |
