I stored my chicken scratch in coffee cans and have been going through it slowly as it is a "treat" for the girls. Today I found small weevils in the scratch. Is it still safe for the chickens to eat the scratch? |

Yes, its just extra protein, lol. FYI, keep it in the freezer and you will not have weevils, that also includes seeds, pet bird food, flour, cornmeal and anything else that weevils like, air and moisture proof containers.

Thanks for your comments. The girls gobbled up the weevils along with the scratch and had no problems.
It may seem strange that I asked this question but web worm was in one of the bags of crumbles and before I realized it the girls started having respiratory problems. Took the bag of feed back to the feed store and they immediately pulled all the same product from the shelves. Hence, my hesitation. Thanks! |
