Hi All,
I just found this site yesterday (in the back of Mary Jane's book) and Im very excited to join you all! Im Maggie. We have a farm in north central Fl where we raise horses, cattle and herding dogs. We also have chickens, cats, pet rats, fish and a pet hog. I homeschool my two boys who are 5 and 7. My husband works at a Power Plant as a welder and mechanic. He hopes to be home for good just tending to the cattle in the future. I enjoy gardening, riding, drawing, painting, reading and bead work. Im looking forward to getting to know you all :)

Thanks for the welcomes! That is bizarre our simularities Luanne!!
The pet pig was a baby wild hog I found one day while trying to get the horses back in the correct field. She was not much bigger then a handful, so thin and had one eye matted shut. We really didnt think she would live. Couldnt ever get her to suck a bottle but she did learn how to drink milk replacer out of a bowl.... 5 months later she has got to be close to 75# :) She thinks she's a dog and follows the golf cart around when Im feeding up. My youngest named her "Bobwire".

Welcome Maggie! I enjoy, gardening, reading, and bead work and am a hack at drawing. I have 3 girls all who were/are homeschooled. Only one left to go. She is a 9th grader. My husband doesn't know how to weld and only knows minor car repair, but being a pastor, those weren't required studies. Growing up we had a pet pig. He was a runt that my dad got for my little sister and I at the auction, caused we begged long enough. My mom rolled her eyes when we brought Wilbur home, because of course she would be that one to try to nurse it to good health. Wilbur survived, though he had misformed front hooves. OUr dog had just had puppies and Harvey( long story) adopted Wilbur as one of her own. Wilbur would nurse with the puppies and of course thought he was a dog. Because of his bad hooves he started walking on his knees. It was really sad to see. As he grew it got more and more difficult. Finally my dad couldn't take it anymore and convinced us it would be better to put him down so he wouldn't be in pain anymore. My sister and I were like Fern in Charlottes Web. We ran to the our room crying holding a pillow over our heads to muffle the sound of the rifle. Wilbur was a great pet! Gee, did I just ramble? Anyway, So glad you have join the forum. I look forward to getting to know you more. Julia V.

Hi Maggie. Welcome to MJ's.
I'm a pig lover too. I have a pet Yorkshire named Dora Piggers. Jenny is so right, they are a hoot! You'll fit right in here.

Well, I am not a pig lover. But I am a Florida gal, at least for the last 30 years or so. We have another member here from Merritt Island, and another from the Panhandle, and I live in Tallahassee.

Welcome! I would love to hear about your farm/ranch. I have driven through your part of the state many times, and always admired the beauty. Once a long time ago, I camped with a group of cave divers near Williston. We went into town to a movie that night and paid 75 cents to get in. It was a sleepy place then. Before Disney.

Yea! Glad to hear there are some Florida farm girls on the site. I had looked up the chapters and there is one listed in Ocala which is only about 30m from me but I guess it must not be current. My husband always shows the boys the building the movie the movie theater used to be in. Caves are stll here... they made that place into a real fancy diving hole but no more movie theater and the town has lost a lot of its sleepy innosence. Here's our farm wbsite for a little peek at what we are up to....
