My name is Erin and I live in Dundee, Oregon. We are surrounded by vineyards here and beautiful "red" dirt hills and green trees. We (my husband and four kids) just bought my Grandparents small 4 acre farm 2 1/2 years ago. I'm ready to make it a working farm....the barn needs repair, the land needs to be worked and I'm determined to make it happen. We got our first brood of hens last year and love the fresh eggs! We are putting our first cover crop in this year and plan to do it the organic way here! It's slow going (my husband has a very full time job, and the kids are 7 and under), but we're determined.
This is all a dream...I grew up in a lot of apartments with a patio full of potted plants for my garden. My grandparents are my inspiration as well as my children who love to be in the garden.
In my spare time I love to knit and read to my kids and of course roll up my sleeves, breathe the fresh air, and dig in outside!

Welcome Erin (one of my favorite names...my youngest daughter is an Erin too!) Sounds like you have a great place and family..4 acres sounds like a perfect amount of land to me!! You will have so much fun making the farm yours and getting it going. I sure look forward to getting to know you here!!

Wow What a quick response Jenny, Thanks!
My husband and I love Utah! We went through on vacation last year and took the kids to Vernal for the Dinasaurs! What a great adventure. Next time we'll be headed for Bryce Canyon. That's what is beautiful about Utah, the diverse landscape. We were lucky enough to get my cousin to feed and water the cat and chickens for 2 weeks!

We to live in Oregon, we have a little less than 5 acres. We are slowly building it into a farm as well, but I am not sure if we are going to go all the way or just keep it simple since we both work full-time. We have chickens, a garden and soon we will have a lamb.
When I feel spring coming I have to plant or I’ll go crazy! |

Thank you for all the welcomes! Oh Elizabeth, I've got to get an apron too....my husband's blue bbq apron just isn't cutting it! I wonder if I'd feel more enegized to get work done wearing one..of course the spring air is call enough already! Tammy we go to the coast a lot, how far south are you?

I have 2 girls, 8 and 4 and it's hard to find time. My little one loves to help in the garden though so that helps. Good luck with all your plans and I look forward to chatting with you here!! |

I feel at home already with all these wonderful welcomes. Thank you so much! Catherine..I do have some Irish roots, but the name Erin came from the Waltons (remember that tv show?). My mom wishes she could tell me a more meaningful story about my name, but that's it! :)I'm the only child out of five NOT named after a saint (lol).
It snowed here this morning...my kids headed outside at 7am to play before it melted away! What a great way to start the day!

Welcome Erin! Do you know our Blueapple (Julia) who also lives in Dundee? I am the Oregon Chapter leader and would love to have you join us. Hi Erin! I'm the "other" Julia and yes, I'm in Dundee! Goodness we aren't real big here so I've probably seen you in Fred's, LOL!! I'd love to meet you. How old are your kids? I have three daughters - Molly is 23 and soon to be married in June, Sarah is 20 and in college and Annie is a senior in high school. Boy, our Oregon chapter is growing! I'm so glad! Welcome!

Julia(blueappl) My kids are 7,6,3, and 19mo! It's busy here, so if you've seen me in Freds...I'd be the one with all the kids! :)...your kids have almost gone! How long have you lived in Dundee?
Lynda, I used to live in the city while in college and after. So living out here raising my kids is wonderful. I lived down the street from this intriguing woman..she had turned all of her gutters, and wash water into an intricate outdoor watering system (all gutters and pipes into a water resavoir) that she used to water her plants and small raised beds in her tiny back yard...this was the best city gardening I had ever seen with my own eyes. People in the neighborhood were always walking by and peeking into her yard to check out what was growing. The potential for "farm girl" is great no matter where you live!

Hello Erin,
I too am new to the forum and am too starting to live my dream. I am a new empty nester (5 Kids 25-18) so I know how busy you are. I had to put my farmgirl on hold 12 years ago due to single motherhood but am excited to jump back in. My only problem is where to start first. I want to do it all right now. I love the forums they have been a great insperation to me in the short time since I joined. Good Luck in your new adventure.
Pray for our troops to come home safe and soon.
