I wasn't sure where to best post this. Actually, at first, I wasn't even sure if I should forward this information at all. Now adays, you never know how much of this stuff is "solid" information and how much is hype. But I think everyone can decide for themselves, if they want to go by this caution or not.... I hope that enough people see it here.
From Dr. Rufus Morison:
If you use mulch around your house be very careful about buying mulch this year. After the hurricane in New Orleans many trees were blown over. These trees were then turned into mulch and the state is trying to get rid of tons and tons of this mulch to any state or company who will come and haul it away. So it will be showing up in Home Depot and Lowes at dirt cheap prices with one huge problem; Formosan Termites will be the bonus in many of those bags. New Orleans is one of the few areas in the country were the Formosan Termites has gotten a strong hold and most of the trees blown down were already badly infested with those termites. Now we may have the worst case of transporting a problem to all parts of the country that we have ever had. These termites can eat a house in no time at all and we have no good control against them, so tell your friends that own homes to avoid cheap mulch and know were it came from. That link isn't working.
Here is a link about the quarantine of wood from the area. i've also heard that the flooding is actually a good thing for quelling the termite problem because they can't survive long under water.

I'sorry for not checking if this kind of topic was already discussed elsewhere. To my defense: when you are in a hurry, it's an effort to search through the many threads, and I didn't want this to keep me from throwing out the (possibly unfounded) warning. Next time I know better. Hope you all can forgive me. ;)

I didn't mean it to be critical! Just that there's more information to consider in another spot. Who hasn't gotten in a hurry and not checked for duplicates? Especially when my computer is being slow!
