It is with a heavy heart that I say good-bye to my clothesline. She just couldn't hold up to the weight of snow. I didn't think to close her up because I'd been hanging clothes just a few days before. Ah well, now I can search for the four-sided model I really wanted. Don't think I'll be hanging out for a while anyhow... Sharon

Oh...how sad. I hope you are able to get a new one soon....what a sad day. I haven't been able to hang clothes lately because husband still hasn't replaced my lines..he had to take them down to dig a ditch across the yard in November and I have been without my clothesline all this time. When it snows like today I don't miss it as much..but we are supposed to have a welcome warming trend later this week...and I will be chomping at the bit to hang clothes out!!
Jenny in Utah Inside me there is a skinny woman crying to get out...but I can usually shut her up with cookies http://www.auntjennysworld.blogspot.com/ visit my little online shop at www.auntjenny.etsy.com |

i was sitting on the back porch with honey hunk today looking at my old four-line clothes line .. (the 'poles' are tree trunks .. and wondering if i should take it down and replace it with a most marvelous fold out antique one that i bought several years ago but have never put up. (it has old red/mustard and black paint and is ADORABLE!!)
but the nostalgia of just using that olde one for the last two years (more to 'decorate' the seasons with vintage aprons/undies/long johns and such) .. and to hang my tea-stained dolly cloth on to dry) .. and i decided i just couldn't bare to take it down. will have to find another spot for the 'tique one!

That's exactly what I'm going to get. Many years ago, I had a four-sided which got taken out in a snow and wind storm and could only replace it with a flat one. I'm hoping I can get a four-sider one at Home Depot or Lowe's. Sharon

Sharon, I am sorry about your clothesline. I am sure she served you well over the years. Forgive my ignorance but when you say 4 sided do you mean the type that look like an umbrella without the cloth? If so, has anyone ever used one of those? All I have ever used is line and now that we are fixed in one spot and not moving I was thinking about trying one of those instead of lines. What do you "experienced" ladies think of that type?
Thanks for the advise! Margaret |

Sharon, I feel your pain. She led a good life serving you. Here's my eulogy....
Sharon's clothesline had to go It broke down under the weight of snow It served its time drying the linens A replacement will give a new beginnin'

Thanks, Catherine! I'll read her the eulogy as we cart her off... GUESS WHAT?! My nextdoor neighbor hollered over the fence yesterday that they had a clothesline they never used anymore and I could just have it! AND it's the four-sided kind. The laundry gods are smilimg upon me!!! I won't be putting it up until after this snowthing is done. I'm sooo happy. Simple minds, eh? Sharon

Oh dear *sniff* I was so sorry to hear that *pout*. But gee, can't you put her out to pasture, maybe like for a skip rope *blubber* or a lasso *sniffle*?

I've thought of that, but it's a smallish garden and I have a trellis made of old bicycle wheels. I promise I won't toss all of her to the heap. Hmmmm, maybe I could trellis by the chickenyard with "the remains". Sharon
