Anyone have any tips on embellishing a christening gown like the one in The Stitching Room? I'm new at the embroidery thing and don't seem to be very coordinated in my attempts at the cutwork. I'll probably have to simplify, but I just LOVE the ribbon that's threaded through the front of the gown. Any tips on a simple way to do this? Thanks!

They make a type of trim called beading that has little rectangles all along the middle and raw edges on either side. Used to come in 1/4" widths, I haven't looked for it in so long that I'm not sure how it is now. It would be where they sell the by-the-yard embroidered trims in the fabric store. Usually comes in white and ivory. Here is a link to a doll-dressing site that has good photos of examples of how these types of trims can be used: http://www.cynthiahoweminiatures.com/Sewing.htm

21 years ago I made up the old Vogue pattern cristening set for use by all the babies in the family but sadly, it only got used twice. Hope the next generation produces more babies that get christened! Good luck with yours, it will become a family heirloom.
