I subscribe to my local town free cycle and get emails all the time about stuff people are giving away. I think you can just go to: yourcityFreecycle@yahoogroups.com put your town in the part that says 'yourtown'. For instance I go to www.CoeurdaleneFreecycle@yahoogroups.com Coeur d' Alene is the closest one to my town. You can sign up to get emails when people post things or you can just check their site. I prefer to get the emails, as my area is not that big and I can handle the three or so I get everyday. I have seen free picnic tables, car seats, dressers, tables, paint, etc. I even got a large clothes drying rack from one. I believe they are all over the country...so check it out!

Oh yeah..and you can post things that you want to give away as well. Might save you a trip to good will. Might be a blessing in someones life! We can all use that from time to time, huh? Pamela

We even have freecycle here on the island. It is the best darn thing. I gave away all my old strawberry plants to many happy folks, a coffee table, big sheet of glass, etc. Sometimes it's a warm fuzzy feeling too...I gave away all my late f-in-law's wardrobe to a fellow who was down on his luck and trying to find a job. He was ecstatic and it felt good to know it went to somebody that needed it. I would highly recommend it, it's amazing what some folks give away.

Yep, I'll agree that it is truly a great find. I gifted a very appreciative gal with a huge stack of Fine Gardening magazines during my latest clutter busting binge. I know, you gardeners cannot imagine someone calling this mag 'clutter' but my place is so tiny and I was really finished with them. Anyway, she was really happy to get them.
The main website is http://www.freecycle.org/ if anyone wants more information. |

Susan, thanks for posting the main website.
I am glad people are being so giving and blessing others. Right now I am saving goods for a friend who is having a yard sale to benefit some missionaries. But when that is over, it will be freecycle.

I've never heard of it before, but it sounds great - what a neat idea. I'm going to check it out to see what is available here where I am - thanks for the website and idea...

I have a "daily digest" sent to my email; of course, in a town my size, there's usually a digest message just 3 or 4 days a week. We've been doing this over a year now and have gotten and gotten rid of some great things.
One thing to think of is your own situation and any security issues. I've never given away or taken something so big I couldn't transport it myself, so I usually meet the person somewhere neutral. It's easy to do this without being obvious about it. I just say something like, "I'll be out running errands today. Would you like to meet me somewhere close to your home?"
I live in a relatively safe community, but with a dh who works shifts, I like preserving my privacy.
Some people search for happiness; others create it.

I wanted to share a freecycle experience I had today. I listed a big dog dish and a partial bag of kibble over the weekend. I just met the lady who came by to pick it up, and she told me that she wanted the dish for her rescue peacocks she found on the freecycle list. I just thought that was neat and what a fun way to pass on something I don't need anymore.

Thank you Pamela for sharing this wonderful site!! I had never heard of it...so i went and signed up, and right away a school teacher from my area was in need of young reader books. I just happen to have an excess of Dr. seuss books, I collect them and have many duplicates that ive been meaning to donate, and im so excited that i get to give them to young minds!! Thanks again!!

Thanks for the info! I'll check it out.
Our area has a "yard sale" site that's kinda' like ebay...just not with the bidding. Its benefit is that you get to go look at the item you're interested in, and no shipping fees. A friend of mine sold things from a small vase for $5 to her living room furniture for several hundred. I haven't used the site but I'm told things sell for a little bit more than an actual garage sale.
Blessings Catherine
